We know it's been discussed on this board a lot...but let's delve into what he could really do for this team......and most importantly Jerry's favorite possesion........(no not the new stadium).........Tony Romo.
Contrary to popular belief Shanahan is a run first coordinator. We've seen this guy turn off the street running backs into stars. With the three running back we have currently I could see us leading the league in rushing. With Shanahan I could see Felix topping 1600-1800 yds, if healthy. I think Felix is that good.
A good running game always makes the quarterback better...just ask Elway, Eli, and Aikman just to name a few SB MVP's.
He would also teach Romo the virtue he has lost, or really never had....patience. To me that's what Romo is lacking the most. He is always looking to make the great play, instead of making the safe, smart play. Hey we all love the bomb....but if you can get 5 yds...take the 5 yds.
Shanahan could turn Romo IMO into the top qb in this league....Shanahan loves a QB with feet...and Romo has it. A lot of people say Romo is like a Jedi....but he is still in training and has a lot to learn from a master.
We all remember "the catch" when Clark caught the ball in the early 80's for the 49er's. We remember Elway throwing another 100 td's with that same play. The question is does Jerry know this? Romo would be fantastic with that play and the bootlegs, naked bootlegs, and with Mike Shanahan in his corner.
He would be held accountable for his play...when he came to the sideline he would be told he screwed up.
IMO if we want to be in the SB any time soon.....we need a Yoda.
