WE all went through the articles when Shanle was traded one said it was a 4th others said it was a sevent. Turns out it was a conditional pick.

What if pastabelly was right with the 4th but forgot to mention it was conditional meaning he had to hit certain incentives or be resigned to get the 4th?

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS SIGN LB SCOTT SHANLE TO A FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT
For Immediate Release: Feb. 9, 2007

The New Orleans Saints have signed LB Scott Shanle to a four-year contract, it was announced by the club today. Shanle, who ranked among the club’s top defenders in 2006 with 117 tackles and four sacks, was slated to become an Unrestricted Free Agent on March 2.

“Making sure Scott returned to our team was one of our priorities entering the offseason,” said Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis. “He was a major part of our improvement on defense last season and a player who is an integral part of the group we want to build around. This is a really positive way to get 2007 started.”

Acquired in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 23 in exchange for a conditional draft pick, Shanle played in every contest and started 15 games. He led the Saints with 77 solo stops, and his 117 total tackles only trailed LB Scott Fujita. Shanle’s four sacks led the linebacker corps and ranked fourth on the team, and he added a forced fumble and deflected a pair of passes.

I'd like to see that too. It is like folks can't use reason or logic. Obviously nobody in their right mind would give up a 4th for a guy who would likely be cut anyway.

but a team would give up a 7th that can turn into a 4th based on playiing time being resigned etc

Actually it was a conditional 7th and the condition was based on him making the team and playing. It did not have an escalator on it that would have improved the pick based on performance or signing him to a contract. Obviously the cowboys should have done that (like NO got a conditional 4th that could improve to a 3rd if Phili signs Donte Stallworth to a contract) but all the Cowboys get is the 7th.

Do you have anything to prove what you are saying?

Come on.

When a team says we'll give you 7th for a scrub who you are going to cut anyway, the response is "hell yes" not "only if you make it a 4th if he does X Y and Z"

I am not looking for a debate I am looking for someone to show something definitive.

We know conditions are made that will make the pick higher

we know it was reported as both a 4th and a 7th

we know the pick was conditional

Now what is the condition

Reportedly we got the 7th -- so the "condition" must have been pretty freaking extreme - if it even existed -- b/c Shanle played as a starter and was re-signed.

Well it was reported as a 4th too.

And the condition does exist thats not a debate anymore the quote I pasted in first post was a press release from the saints themselves

Well I am not the agent and I was not able to personally view the contract but it was falsely reported by BSPN that it was a conditional 4th rounder when actually it was a 7th.

But my inside source confirmed that it was a 7th.

You can also review nfldraft and a host of other sites that will confirm the extra 7th round pick.

Call Jerry if you need a wet copy of the contract.

Reports can be in error -- especially when it involves stuff that matters to nobody but serious fans. You've got one report of a 4th and about a million of a 7th. Error. Corrected.

You guys are ALL missing the point. Whether it was a 4th, 7th or whatever the guy is a pretty good football player. He really flies around the ball. I like him alot, always did. I know he's light for the 3/4 scheme but he fits in Gibb's 4/3 in N.Orleans quite well. I guess he wasn't a "Parcells guy" but after the 4 year extension he just signed he proved his worth.

Actually, the thread is about Shanle being traded for a conditional pick.

So that kinda is the point.
