I guess if we picked Floyd at 18, there was absolutely no way we could have traded up from 47 to 31 (even if going that high was necessary) to pick Fred? No, that would have been impossible. #sarcasm

Watch the tape, stats don't always tell the whole story. Read any scouting report by whoever you want written prior to the draft. Floyd was a very good pass rusher as a 20 year old in the SEC. Sheldon Richardson, who went 13th, had 6 sacks in that same time.

And I'm not completely with the OP in saying that Frederick shouldn't have been the pick, I'm just tired of seeing this from people just because it was the spin the front office fed to everyone.

Trust me, I've watched plenty of tape. Floyd will never be great pass rusher. Oh, I'm also not too high on Richardson, but he had as many sacks his last year as Floyd did his entire career. Richardson also had a bunch more qb hurries.

Floyd is out for the preseason and wasn't going to be starting. He is a developmental prospect and is going to be a while in developing if he does at all. Fred is going to start and play well from day 1.

Revisionist history makes the case for Floyd worse and not better. I wouldn't trade them head up right now.

You do realize it takes two parties to trade, right? Oh, and did you what Minn had to forfeit to trade up? "We should have picked" posts are terrible enough, but a "we should have picked X player AND traded up for Y player" post? That's a whole new posting low.

Has it?

The DL still looks okay even though we're on our 3rd SDE on the depth chart, and Ratliff is still out. Don't get me wrong; things could get bad pretty quick (knock on wood), but we're holding strong so far.

We were thinner on the OL. Can you imagine not having Frederick? Leary, Livings and Cook are already not playing right now...

Yeah, I think it has. I don't think that anyone they've played at SDE has come close to Spencer's level. They've all got exploitable weaknesses. Marinelli's coaching can probably make up for some of that. And maybe Bass, if he can stay healthy.

Fredrick was an absolutely stellar pick though. Sharp, strong guy with a great attitude. Just what we needed.

It apparently costs only a 3rd round pick to move from 31 to 18. And yes, Jerry has had so much trouble finding trade partners. #more sarcasm

It would be nice to have a replacement for Spencer, especially since this is likely his last year. But Selvie is 3rd on the depth chart and is holding up. That's incredible. That's what depth is. We can't have guys on the team that come in and play at the level of Spencer... it just doesn't work that way in this era.

If we did have someone like that, Spencer would be traded for someone who can fill a hole elsewhere.

Imagine to still have Costa at center.
If Costa was still at center that TD pass to Austin last week wouldn't have happened cause there wouldn't been a space for Romo to climb the pocket and deliver the rock. Fred was the right pick without doubt.

Ratliff on the PUP is exactly why you draft a Top 5 DL talent that slips to 18 when you get the chance. Frederick was a very good pick at 31, but I still think you stick to your board (which had Floyd rated top 15) and take best available player. Then, if you love Frederick so much, do what you can to trade up from the 2nd round to get him.

shoot me now, agenda man.

It was just a matter of time before a Floyd thread popped up, I was hoping, nay, praying that it wouldn't be until he fell into his first sack around week 5

Fred straight up is better than Floyd AND throw in our shiny new 3rd WR and this debate should go the way of the dodo bird and dinosaurs

If Fredbeard stays healthy and performs as good or better in games just like he did in preseason, we may have the best offensive lineman from the 2013 draft. It's quite possible.

Again people I didn't make the Cowboys draft board they did. They had him fifth overall. What is the board for? DARTS or drafting best picks

Remember I'm the one who picked them to open the season 4-1 or 5-0. So dont shoot the messenger unless you shoot down all the messages.

All together now, they could have had Floyd and Frederick, not Floyd or Frederick. Frederick would have been available in the 2nd rd. Peace
