Shariff on 105.3 - McClay will be in the driver's seat, not Stephen, once Jerry gives up GM duties

I disagree - they have always been very good at managing the cap - the problem is they are very bad at contracts which means they have to get super creative moving money around.

Just look at daks stupid contract and the 90mm number that's coming up...contract is horrendous but they will get creative and move the money around.
All of that is just part of managing the cap.

They both could be in the driver's seat........they need each other. Stephen's strength isn't football as much as business/cap and vice versa, McClay is more football/talent evaluator. So IMO, both can be true.......
Why is this coming up now........
Jerry's age. From what they said McClays contract is structured for him to have more control. Its also interesting that they are saying Charlotte will be attending the Owners meetings

With all the complaining about Jerry, people have to understand one thing: Jerry is a visionary as a businessman. When he is out of the picture, can a Stephan Jones led organization maintain its value? I have alot of doubt about that.

Not sure how excited to get over this for a few reasons…

-We don’t know exactly how much of McClays advice Jerry actually takes. How much different will things be?

-While the draft board/decisions of the last decade or so have been much better than when Jerry’s drinking buddies were doing it, they have had too many misses to make their overall plan work. Does the plan change?

-They will need a major change in philosophy, and being conservative to the point where you’re repeatedly unsuccessful sounds a lot more like Stephen than Jerry. Stephen will still hold the checkbook.

I’m not at all defending Jerry, but we don’t know much is really on him. I think the entire family, Jerry around or not, needs a strong personality to run the whole thing. Someone like a Harbaugh or Payton (the Parcells route). I can’t see it being anything different than the same if not, and that’s why this past HC choice didn’t much matter because it’ll never be that until Jerry is gone. At best.

The Cowboys and the Jones family are tied together...it's what they are known for, more than real estate dealings, being media moguls or being wild-catters.

Even if those other businesses make more money than the Cowboys, why wouldn't Charlotte, or any of the kids, attend those meetings to make sure things are going as planned.

The Charlotte tidbit is a nothing burger to me

That’s all Jerry has wanted the last 30 years. How does McClay move the needle? The whole FO needs to be gutted.
I figure that McClay may make better decisions and be a little quicker at making those decisions. That is the biggest problem with Ol Jerry and son ,it takes them too long and then everything costs more.

If the problem was McClay, Jerry would have fired him.

Under that logic he would have fired himself, no?

That aside I can’t agree. They like being “comfortable” and “loyal.”

“Around the rim” is nice as well. They think they are “close.”

They don’t strive to get better, but to maintain what has already proven to not work.

They couldn’t win when most of the top salaries on the current roster were making nothing, how is that supposed to happen now?

Sorry to sound argumentative and/or the bearer of bad news, but I can’t see it any other way for now.

Probably the most important one of them all

Its just another tool they are using to get fans enraged. Anything that gets the fan based furious with "why why why" "how could they be so..." leads to more attention to cowboys and drawing in more random, while also fueling media assets.

People complaining at work about the Cowboys could turn a non-football watcher into a Cowboy follower because they want to join the convo at work. Drama leads to media viewers, which leads to money if you own media assets.

You know this.
I would be interested in making my number one in the world franchise a winner if I was the GM .Make money and be successful, if I didn't know how to run a good team,I would find people that could.

You're swimming upstream according to Jerry.

Obviously Jerry knows the books and knows what enraged fans do for his media assets and his pocket book.

Winning a trophy isn't the goal, being relevant and losing in the playoffs, Purposefully, is the goal. It causes the most fan enragement...which means more money.
