Prosecutors suggested a nine-year prison term for Sharper under a multijurisdictional plea deal, but Milazzo rejected it as too lenient in June. The sentence was 15 months short of the maximum. He was also fined $20,000.

Bravo to the judge.

Sharper pleaded guilty in federal court to three counts of distributing drugs with rape as the aim. He or his friend Brandon Licciardi, a former sheriff's deputy in neighboring St. Bernard Parish, put anti-anxiety drugs or sedatives into women's drinks so they could rape them, according to a 15-page statement signed as part of that plea.

Pieces of ****. You would think raping 16 women would be a life sentence, at least.

Thank God he was never a Cowboy. If he played for us for even just a single game in his entire career, the story would have been headlined "FORMER COWBOY player sentenced in rape trial"

18 years is FAR too lenient. The scary thing is that the maximum is apparently 20 years. I would think 18 years PER victim would be reasonable.
20 years is the max for what he pled guilty to, which is three counts of a lesser crime. The scary thing to me is that the prosecutors were willing to let him off with 9 years.

I'm not too worked up about 18: it avoids the uncertainty associated with going to trial and spares the victims from having to go deal with all the stuff a trial would involve.

I'm glad the judge ignored the prosecutor's recommendation. Had he only gotten 9 years it would have been criminal in its own right.

Shoot the avg murder sentence is only 20 years, so with a little good behavior you're out in lickity split. So I see how he got 18 years. State lets you earn around 30% of your sentence in good behavior, the Feds give you 54 days per year currently, but peeps trying to get that changed to 100-120.

So 18 years isn't really 18 years.

his actual guilty (read: pleaded to) crimes were only distributing drugs.

He didnt actually get convicted or plead to the actual rapes.

Which is why the sentence is so light.

this is what you think of when you read this story? Cmon man. Rape is bad regardless if he was a cowboy or not. I doubt anyone would give him a pass even if he played for the Cowboys.

First I've heard of this. Guess just didn't pay attention, but my question is this.
There must be some strange control thing at play here. Why does a decent looking, supposedly wealthy, public figure need to do this to get his jollys? It seems he could go out and get any number of women. Just plain evil I suppose.

Hard to understand his motivation. He was young, handsome and wealthy.18 years. They really hit him hard. From the SB to the penitentiary. That is a hard fall.

Curious to understand the point in a 20k fine. Seems meaningless.
