The first trip of Darren Sharpe's free agent tour is over, without a contract in place.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports Sharper has left Jacksonville after a "productive" visit and will remain in contact with the team. It's unclear if he received a contract offer.

Sharper has no other visits scheduled at this time, and the Saints still appear to be the most likely landing spot for the safety.

I don't know why some of you are getting all excited about Darren Sharper.....HE"S NOT SIGNING HERE!!!! He's just making visits to try to get New Orleans to up their contract offer, that's all, He'll resign with New Orleans, so forget about Sharper..

Yup, he's looking for a multi-year deal. After the Ken Hamlin contract, I doubt the Cowboys will be willing to give him more than a 1-year contract, especially since he's that old.

Why anyone is against renting Sharper for a one year deal is beyond me.

He wont make mental mistakes, will be the "quarterback" that Hamlin was, and is one of the best safeties of all time.

Yes he's old and coming off knee surgery, but I'd still take him over what is available.

Now if some safeties get cut here in the upcoming weeks/months, it might be a different story.

Yeah he's LOOKING for a multi year deal, but he's not going to get one from any team. He's 35 and coming off knee surgery.

Maybe thats why Schefter said if he doesn't sign with Jacksonville than he Dallas may be where he goes.

Maybe he explored Free Agency, found no team wanting to give him a longterm deal, and decided if he is going to go somewhere for a year than no better place to showcase yourself than in Dallas.

Dallas may have told his agent they'd like to do something but not longterm.

+1. We will rue the day we ride with Alan Ball as a starting safety.

I don't think we will exactly rue it. He played last year and got his 1st significant playing time that he has ever got in his career and wasn't at all a liability.

The only thing that scares me with Ball is he is so tiny.

just stay away from us

That's ridiculous. A player like Sharper increases our chances of being a super bowl contending team.

I've said this before, I'd love to get Sharper here for a one or two year deal. Load the money upfront. So what he gets a big paycheck, especially if it pays off with a Super Bowl. With this year being uncapped, we could do it. Atogwe isn't coming here. He would be a progress stopper for Hamlin/Ball/AOA. I prefer AOA to be the future FS. But until then, let's get Sharper in here to help us NOW.

unclear whether he received a contract offer - but the headline says NO OFFER.

which is it?

I'll take O.J. Atogwe if Dallas wants to go the veteran route. If we landed Sharper for a year or two I wouldn't be upset though.

I'd like to see Mike Hamlin step up and win the FS job ... just as other young players stepped up last year. This would allow Ball to provide depth at both CB and FS.

I wouldn't be opposed to Sharper on a 1-2 year deal. But his age, recent injuries, and the fact he likes to free lance some to make plays, could be deal breakers for the Boys. There's no arguing his production though.
