Won another X Games gold. When do we start talking about this guy as the best US athlete ever?

He's pretty bad *** on anything that has the word "board" in it.

He's definitely the best in his game but I don't think you can compare traditional sports with extreme sports like this.

Just two different worlds, IMO.

Not to discount his realm at all. I love the X-Games and look forward to them each year to see Pastrana do something absolutely nuts but I just don't think the two are comparable.

I'm a big fan of Shaun White and his accomplishments, but the list starts and ends with Carl Lewis as far as Olympians...

Best athlete ever is a stretch...I don't have cable so I didn't see his final run until I made this thread and I was a little bit pumped :laugh2:

That's fair for the most part, but as a snowboarder, I can tell you the stuff he does takes ridiculous athleticism. He's literally the only guy in the world who can throw down the run he did. Whereas someone like Pastrana really relies on equipment and less on athleticism imo.

Screw Shaun White. He's ripping off the artwork of a friend I've known since 9th grade and using it on his clothing/accessories line being marketed via Target.

Sounds like your buddy should have a nice paycheck waiting for him?

What's the deal?

not even close. Not in the same galaxy as people like Jenner, Lewis, etc.

That was a pretty sweet run. Loved the way he nailed the landings.

I have a friend who is a graphic artist and Alter Bridge stole one of his graphics for their album. I told him to sue them but he didn't.

Same way with Mike, he's not the type to sue.

When he plays a real sport with the same success.

When he breaks into one of the big three: baseball, basketball, or football...i.e. never.

Glad someone named Bruce Jenner and Carl Lewis. Those guys probably stand alone as greatest of all time. Maybe throw Michael Jordan in there too, and if he wins on Sunday, I'd put Tom Brady in the discussion.

A real sport? What is your definition of that? Snowboarding takes tons of physical ability. How is it not a sport?

Jim Thorpe. ;)

Just in the Olympic sports I'd include Jesse Owens, Mark Spitz (and I guess Phelps), Eric Heiden, Michael Johnson...

I love the decathlon, but I don't know if I'd put Jenner in there. (Probably needs a new thread.)

You don't need to be a hater for the sake of being a hater...
