Shawn Oakman || Baylor Highlights ᴴᴰ || Absolute…:

What do y'all think of him as our first round choice? Love his leadership and grit he plays with. On top of that he's 6' 9. Crazy!!

No way in the 1st. Guy is just size. Watch gamr film and jot highlights. You will see him stand up and when that happens the OG or OT get under him and his done. With his size he still doesn't know how to be dominate.

He is to raw for a 1st round pick. Needs alot of work still.

Look at Hageman from last year. Was nothing but a big physical freak people fell in love with.

Hageman also had a rep. for being lazy. Haven't seen much of Oakman to have an opinion.

I watched a lot of Baylor games and was specifically looking for Oakman but always had a terrible time finding him or noticing him as a difference maker.
I was shocked to find out he has 10 sacks on the year because for all the Baylor games I watched I barely noticed him. You'd also think with his height and wingspan he'd have more pass deflections but there are only 3 in the PD column.
He is a physical freak and I could see him POSSIBLY fitting the pro game better than college but at this point he's very raw and not as disruptive as you'd think he should be. I wouldn't spend a first round pick on him. In fact, I'm hoping someone else does long before we pick so we're not tempted.
Nate Orchard looks like the more ready pass-rusher. He was significantly more disruptive and has the sack totals and big plays to show for it. Orchard and Calhoun are the two I'd spend a first on in that order if we go DE. I can see us going CB though too, esp in Waynes or PJ Williams are still there.

I think someone should convert him into a OT and see if he can develop on the offensive side of the ball.

I go to a lot of games and I agree with your assessment: He is good but does not use his size or speed as well as he should or could. He would be a solid LDE in the NFL but he would never be a premiere edge rusher. If he did come out (which he is not) he would be a good pick late in the 1st.

considering he's going back to college, if he further develops then look out, and I'll take back what I said. He definitely has intriguing size and athletic ability

He made huge strides from last year to this year. Considering he was a Penn St transfer and a little older, surprised to see him staying.
