Shawne Merriman hospitalized; reportedly overdosed at LA club

Former San Diego Chargers Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital Sunday night for what is being loosely described as a "medical emergency."

Details are scant, but the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Merriman overdosed on some combination of drugs and alcohol.

Why are you pretty sure about that? He certainly should have lots of money in his savings account, but I wouldn't be sure of it. Sports stars have a way of going broke quickly.

I'm not saying he did or didn't, but the guy has been pretty active on twitter today. He says 'dehydration' which is a convenient excuse, but without knowing anything about drugs, I would imagine that someone who just OD'd isn't going to be that up and about.

yeah i think he gained like 30 pounds seemingly overnight after his last Maryland season was over and it was all muscle. It was screaming roids then....of all the crummy picks we've missed on..... D Ware (a potential HoF'er) was sandwiched between WR Mike Williams and LB Shawne Merriman.

How hard is it to tweet?

Just because he is tweeting about doing something it doesn't mean he is actually doing something.

He could also be taking some uppers to keep himself going after an OD. Nikki Sixx ODed one time, went to the hospital, checked out and went home to do more drugs.
