A good possibility that Wade Phillips would be hired as the HC, with Jason Garrett hired as the OC and be groomed to take over for Phillips. Thoughts?
I could get behind that.

I could see Jerry and Wade really hitting it off, and I think Phillips is a good coach too. And since everyone knows how loved Garrett is around here, that wouldn't surprise me either. Would Wade Phillips be comfortable with a young guy after his job sitting right behind him though?

I heard a Dallas sportscaster/writer say on ESPN that Les Stiles/Styles is a possiblity. He's a former Cowboy TE coach. I don't know anything about him. Anyone?

That puts Jerry Jones back in our head coaches spot. Great idea.

Probably. I was in the car and listening to the radio. I don't remember him, but that's not uncommon for position coaches.

The problem is ... this might work, but could very easily waste 3 years of Romo and the rest's development. Garrett is a very smart guy, but has little experience. I want to root for former Cowboys like that, but this is the Dallas Cowboys not the New York Jets. Teams like the Jets can take a chance on unproven Mangini; they've wasted so many years already. Teams like the Cowboys are in a different league and need to make coaching decisions stick. We can't afford another Campo or Gailey.

Heck, if we're considering former Cowboys, why not expand the search to include Danny White? Wasn't he hugely successful in the AFL? What former player knows offense and coaching better than him! That's it - Danny White for head coach is my new mantra!

wade sucks i hope he never becomes the cowboys coach

The pillsbury dough boy was a loser both in Denver and Buffalo. No way he succeeds in Dallas. At least Mora was a winner.

Some people make their picks based on looking at the stat line. "Oh, he has a top ranked defense/ offense ??? Hire him."

The guy is a good coach...take a look at his record. When he has talent to work with, which the Boys have, he succeeds.

I like that. I've always liked Jason from his time back when he had to fill in for some pretty big shoes here & there. He always performed admirably well. He's a very smart guy. Well, he always played very smart.

I'll never forget his play in that Thanksgiving Game back in 94.

JASON GARRETT
Year: 1994
Team: Dallas

Clint Longley's success was the "triumph of the uncluttered mind;" Garrett's was the celebration of an Ivy Leaguer who maximized his skills to produce a lengthy NFL career as a reliable backup. Twenty years after Longley's unlikely heroics, it was Garrett's turn, as he replaced injured Troy Aikman and hobbling backup Rodney Peete to direct the Cowboys to a 42-31 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Garrett's path to the NFL was the road less taken — a path that meandered through the CFL, the then-World League, two practice squads and a year as an assistant coach at Princeton, his alma mater. He didn't make it to an active NFL roster until five years after his last college game.

But in their holiday game of 1994, the Cowboys were thankful Garrett persisted so long in pursuing his dream. He directed the team to a franchise-record 36 second-half points against the Packers, led six consecutive scoring drives and threw two touchdown passes as Dallas rode back from a 17-3 deficit for the triumph.

It should stand to reason that Garrett was unfazed by the 14-point deficit. He had slept through a fire alarm that sounded in the Cowboys' team hotel at 6:30 a.m. that Thanksgiving morning.

"If this is a fairy tale, so be it," a modest Garrett said afterwards. "Guys played incredibly well around me."

I would rather hire Rivera and let him bring in Mike S as DC,, then maybe bring in Garrett as OC,, or just promote chris palmer. i dont see why we would give someone another 4 yr contract that is already 60 and have to go thru this yearly drama about them returning.

Because this is a stupid A franchise from top to bottom.

Phillips career record 45-37
Mora 26-22

I really love it when we use facts to support our arguments
