Clayton was coming up too, but I didnt get to listen to what he said.

Basically Shefter said nothing was going to change after today. That both sides had already prepared appeals if they are ruled against and that it would be another 30-60 days after this before the appeals court ruled. Said it was highly unlikely any ruling would come today anyway, and that todays hearing might not be ruled on for a week to two weeks.

It's funny cause everyone has a different take. Some believe the judge will scare both sides enough to force them back to the table, some say exactly what Adam said and others believe this will pass through the court systems with appeals and all with in 30 days.

I don't pretend to know when the judge is going to rule... but for Adam Schefter to say anything is "highly unlikely" is just scare mongering IMO.

They asked Shefter for hsi best guess on when it would be resolved, and he said not until late August or September, when they were against the hard deadline to start the season.

Sux.

He was basing that one what his sources were telling him.

The fact that both sides already have appeals paperwork ready to file says he's probably right.

Well he said it's highly unlikely a ruling is coming today. The fact that appeals will be done has little to do with that. This court has to make a ruling before any appeal starts.

I've alway felt that was the case. Until then both sides are more interested in playing the blame game and finger pointing.

Yep... Jerry warned us about this even well before the lockout when he said fans shouldn't get too upset if we didn't have OTAs and minicamps this spring and summer.

This.

Of course, this judge has been known to be pro Union in the past. (at least that is what I read)

How on earth any "sports reporter" knows what this judge is going to rule is beyond me.

Nobody knows what she will do except her. Yes appeals are ready, which is the wise thing to do for any lawyer, but what her ruling will be only she knows.

Hopefully, she doesn't even know yet. Otherwise there would be a serious bias and that isn't supposed to be how the system works.

She probably does know. David Doty did back in 1992 prior to the Reggie White hearing.

She isn't showing up cold like a jury would. She has been reading depositions and discovery for weeks, she has all the facts she needs. 20 minutes for each side will do very little to move her one way or the other

When I was talking about "nothing going to change" he was referring to the outside hope that either 1) an agreement would somehow be reached right after this ruling today or 2) the possibility she'd rule in favor of the players, end the lockout and have business as usual (ie, trades, free agency) until a new CBA could be worked out.

He doesnt even believe a ruling is coming today, based on what he's being told by NFL people.

I think some of you might want to get some valium because if some of you are wigging out already, you might not make it till the end when all of this stuff is finally worked out. :D

So a reporter gives an opinion on what information he has gained from his sources and now that means he is scaremongering, or that he may already know the judges ruling therefore she is a fraud, or that she is pro this or that so she will rule this way or that way...On top of the valium I might advise some tin foil.:D

If one listened to more than just the Shefter segment they heard of many possibilities.

The likelihood is she judge listens to the 20 minute spiels today, advises the sides to bargain while she takes 48 to 96 hours to deliberate because she will likely rule in ways that neither side finds totally to their best interest, then the waiting game begins for her ruling Friday/Monday.

The ruling will certainly be appealed but it could force business to begin until the appeal is heard.

Will owners conduct normal business if the lockout is lifted? I believe so. I do not think they'll ignore players sitting on the market knowing all it takes is one owner to get the ball rolling.

Put this in another thread too

This was Eric Winston, RT from the Texans tweet today

http://twitter.com/#!/ericwinston

He was then interviewed about this. He was saying that the hearing today boils down to that. The owners, in fighting for a lockout, are basically against football being played. He was presented with the idea that they just want to do it until they get what they think is coming to them. He said that he understands that is how the owners are presenting it but the reality is that since FA started, the players have always received 50-55% of the revenue..whether that is total, aggregated, etc. Last year they took less to get more stadiums built..like 50.5%. He said what people don't understand is that they don't want to see the owners books if it stays at least 50/50. It is going below that point and bucking history that makes them want to see why they think they all of a suddenly need more. It was interesting to hear. He also said he understands that all sides are villains but that many players just want to get these basic truths out vs having a mouthpiece like the owners atty twisting facts.

As for the hearing he said that when you are at this big an impasse he can't see going back to the table.

I'll say it again.

The owners will lift the lockout and play an uncapped year without a CBA and try to start over.

Today's ruling will have no impact whatsoever on football in 2011 other than to give one side what they think is ammo.

That is THEIR spin. Nothing more. It has been established that the players got more of the pie after this last CBA.

logic, much?

If the owners are going to do this what exactly are they waiting on?
perhaps the ruling you insist has no real effect?

if the judge lifts the lockout and forces the owners to play under the existing CBA the players win and get exactly what they want. that is definitely NOT a victory for the owners in any way.

the players have the law on their side, the owners have money on theirs. the owners want to drag out a lockout and watch players scramble as paychecks don't flow in. the owners DO NOT want to play football under the current CBA ever again.
