Shefter Reporting...Garrett-OC and Rex Ryan - HC

How long does it take to set up an interview?

"Rex, we'd like to talk to you about the head coaching gig. We understand that airborne travel has been developed, and we can have you in Dallas tomorrow."

/Rex finishes a crab-cake/

"Sure. I'll see what I can do."
Your logic: We haven't interviewed him yet, so he isn't being considered.

That eliminates just about everyone but Garrett and the inside guys.

The only official indication we've had of anyone being considered for the HC position is Phillips. I doubt he'd be the only person outside the organization that gets considered.

Here's some logic for you.

We have a deadline of tomorrow to do things with Garrett. I don't know how strictly Miami can enforce it, but it is what it is.

If Ryan is going to be our head coach, shouldn't he have been interviewed first, so that he could have a part in looking at the OC candidate, in Garrett?

That would be logical. Interviewing your OC before your HC ina situation where your HC will have no opportunity to acquaint himself with the OC - is not.

Haven't you heard? Jones called all the guys he is going to interview for HC and asked if they liked his candidates for assistants.

super, are you drinking?

Now you're arguing that someone can't be in consideration because they weren't interviewed before Garrett. How does this make sense to you?

As far as we know, we haven't interviewed anyone for the HC position outside of the organization. Saying that someone isn't a candidate because he hasn't been interviewed is just silly. Surely you see this.

You can manage that - with a guy like Capers with Cameron, as Capers was already a coordinator, and has a body of work to look at, for the potential head coach.

Garrett's body of work is making Harrington slightly better than crap.

I agree. It is silly.

That's probably why I didn't say that.

There is no way in hell that Buddy Ryan's son is coaching this team. No FREAKING way.

I think he's a great choice but the history there is crazy.
It would be great to have Buddy doing flip flops in his grave over his son coaching the Cowboys. The thought makes me smile.

At least I think the SOB is in his grave. If he is still alive even better that he stew in his own juices about his son coaching here. :)

So that is not what you were implying here?

Then why haven't we intrviewed Ryan, yet?

Is he too busy not coaching in the playoffs?

Why cant people understand that Jerry wants Garrett in his organization ..... he has a time limit to do this .....

He will Hire him as an OC and if the new coach does not like it he pays him to keep him around and lets the guy bring in his own people.

Jerry is covering all his bases ..... and he has the money to throw around.

Jerry could sell a Fridge to a Eskimo ...... whatever new coach we get, will get a valuable assistant and will still be able to bring in his guys ....

peace.

No.

What that implies, is that I think it is foolish to be interviewing OC candidates before HC candidates. IF indeed the plan is to have Ryan as a HC, then IMO it makes far greater sense to interview him first - as there would be absolutely nothing holding us back from doing so, since his team is no longer playing.

Hence, I give no credence to the rumor that Ryan is intended to be our HC, and Garrett our OC, because the progression of interviews does not make any logical sense to me. IMO, if Ryan is in consideration, it is for HC. And the same goes for Garrett.

Unless Jerry intends to piece-meal a staff. Then - ugh.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your post. The proposition was made earlier in the thread, which may be why I jumped to that conclusion.

I know it doesn't make sense to hire staff before hiring the HC, but unless Jones is (1) hiring Garrett as HC or (2) had the move ok'd by whoever the future HC is, that looks like exactly what he's doing (if in fact Garrett is hired).

OR

he is going back to coaching the team and looking for yes men. I can't get the years after Jimmy out of my head when it comes to this guy and after spending 4 years learning from BP, he might feel he is better equiped now than ever before.

From the limited amount of Ravens games I've seen, Ryan is my top choice as HC and I'm intrigued by what Garrett would bring to the table on Offense.

Buddy stole Jimmy's wife or something.

There ae a lot of things Buddy might have done to Jimmy, but Buddy couldn't steal anybody's wife.

Well stranger things have happened... But as far as Rex Ryan for HC, I would absolutely love him considering he has experience in the 3-4 and is a defensive genious. Rex Ryan, Rivera, (and lovie if available) would be my top 3 choices for HC!!!

See to me, it just seems like JJ is up to his old tricks. I'm going to hire this guy as MY OC, and if you as a HC candidate don't like that, tough noogies. I guess you won't be MY HC.

Remember, this is MY team.

Nah, he is still alive. He will be the coach for the Nation in the Texas vs. the Nation football game in early February.
