I dont want the guy at all, hopefully somebody else gets him. I think he's washed up.

But didnt see this posted, so here it is:

@Adam_Schefter Don't be surprised if the 49ers put in a waiver claim for LB Shawne Merriman, who would like to play in Baltimore, Miami or Dallas. 32 minutes ago

I personally would love to see him here, working with Wade again and giving Ware and Spencer a few snaps off. He may be a shell of his former self, but even pre-steriods he was a very good player

When was he ever "pre-steroids"

Most likely he started taking them late in college. Once he got busted in the pros, he was done.

maybe it was posted in the Merriman thread in the NFL zone where you said he was washed up and you didn't want him.

I have to agree, man. He was awesome under Wade's D but he also was juiced up. I think he's done now.

by most accounts it looks like he started after college and pre-combine. he gained a ton of weight very quickly.

He put up some very good #s the year after his suspension. so your analysis ... not so good.

wasn't his post suspension/pre injury stats posted in the Merriman thread in the NFL Zone and it showed that he wasn't done until the injured knee? were those stats wrong that were posted in the Merriman thread in the NFL Zone?

I wouldn't mind taking a shot at him. Worst case scenario is he doesn't work out and we cut him.

It's worth a look to see if he has anything left in the tank.

And not that it matters but wasn't Parcells lobbying for him over Ware?

no they weren't wrong.

some people in this thread will continue to say the same thing, even after shown to be wrong.

I think Jerry's done with taking chances on known bad apples so to speak, especially with a drug use history.

no, I think it was Spears that BP was rumored to like have argued for over Ware (which was likely just them throwing out different draft scenarios ... e.g., if we take Spears what is the chance that Ware/Merriman is still there at #20?). I think he and Jerry were on the same page with Ware over Merriman though.

Last 18 games (which covers parts of 3 seasons now)

Merriman, 4 sacks, no forced fumbles, no passes defensed, no interceptions, no fumbles recovered.

The yr after the suspension, he had 1 game with 3 sacks and 1 game with 2.5, otherwise did next to nothing.

Are steroids legal? If not, I see no reason to sign Lights Out, who is more Lights Off these days.

The PROBLEM with him is he can never stay on the field. His body is always breaking down on him. Now, would you take a chance on putting his hands on the ground and have him rush the qb, maybe take Hatch off the field? Or have him rush from the stand up spot, right behind Ware? He could work, here if his snaps were limited.

Sounds good on paper, but, realistically injury concerns with him outweigh the fantasy pass rush scenario. :D:D

This team needs help along the OL first and foremost. Then next this team needs a good FS and possibly another budding CB to replace Newman soon.

That would be ok if we didnt already have Victor Butler, who at this stage of their careers is probably a much better, and more gifted athlete anyway.

Butler produces when he's out there, they just dont put him out there that much.

Agreed. Butler just get it done whenhe DOES get on the field....personally, I'd like to see him on the field more WITH D-Ware.
