by most accounts it looks like he started after college and pre-combine. he gained a ton of weight very quickly.

He put up some very good #s the year after his suspension. so your analysis ... not so good.
We had a poster here who worked out at the same gym as Merrman while he was at Maryland. Long before the draft or combine he said he was juicing. He stated it pretty much as a fact, not speculation.

I dont want the guy at all, hopefully somebody else gets him. I think he's washed up.

But didnt see this posted, so here it is:

Seems to be a lab creation, but played pretty well under Wade. If there is no cost involved, maybe.

This guy (Clay Matthews) should double check his pee cup too. He was 165 lbs. in high school.

Yep, only difference between him and Cushing is that Cushing got caught.

It's no coincidence that his body has been breaking down so dramatically. The guy has had to have been juicing for years. Your tendons just don't grow back either. His all-star days are over.

I personally would love to see him here, working with Wade again and giving Ware and Spencer a few snaps off. He may be a shell of his former self, but even pre-steriods he was a very good player

he's a shell, that's all you need to say about him, the guy is a cancer, and way over rated, don't want him anywhere near this team..let some other stooge over pay him for his services and watch him miss games because of injury..

I don't like him personally but I would be hard pressed to believe he would be a bigger waste of a roster spot than Alan Ball, Jesse Holley, Alex Barron and a few others.

There are so many reasons to avoid the guy. Injuries, suspensions, lack of recent production, off field drama, complaints about his contract.

He was a force at one time, but he would be a bigger longshot than Pacman was by far.

Guys I guess i am a bit of a steroid expert. I know way too much on this subject. The reality is that most players that we all love take steroids. Its the idiots that get caught taking them. The guys that are so addicted to their gains that they take risk with dosages, cycles, and chemical type. The key for these professional athlete is to take the right kind of steroids at the right time that will clear your urine the fastest. Its not pleasant to have to inject yourself everyday with a water based steroid but it would be the way to beat the test. They clear your body in hours. It's the longer acting steroids that take much longer to clear your urine for a drug test. In fact Cushing didnt even test positive for a steroid. He tested positive for HCG which is used to bring your natural test levels back up after a cycle. Otherwise your body will shrink down after a cycle while your testicles get back up to speed. So he was taking HCG. Some take Clomid for the same effect. So the fact that he was taking something that you take after a cycle yet he somehow beat the testing in college, and before for actual steroids shows how easy it is to beat these test. In fact you can buy artificial urine these days with contraptions like the "wizzinator" to beat a test.

The reality of most sports at that level is that the players are using steroids in different dosages and cycle lengths.

If you really want to weed out all the steroid users then you need to administer random blood test. Guess what? Blood test are not allowed. The players union would strike before they agree on blood testing. The only reason they could really be against blood test is they cant hide the drug use(as much) with blood test.

If we didnt have steroid use in football then everything would change. Players wouldnt be so big and so strong and so fast if they were all clean.

Look at 20 years ago footballl vs today football. And dont give me crap about players take supplements now and vitamins. These vitamins they are taking are test, dbol, winny v, ect. Not centrum, whey protein, and creatine.

So it took us a few hundred thousand years for people to evolve to the size we were 20 years ago. Yet in only the last 20 years we suddenly gained 40 pounds of lean muscle? I understand evolution of people and creatures. But changes to body composition as drastic as what we have seen over the last 20 years in sports cannot be explained away. Its a coincidence that steroids and growth hormone came on to the scene and we just happen to blow up like we have.

Evolutionary changes takes many many many generations to take effect. And when you combine that with the difference in gains made by professional athletes and gains made by the general population over the same period of time you will see that its not about eating right.

The "hogs" on the Commanders offensive line averaged about 260 pounds. Our TE is bigger than their hogs.

Its not a coincidence that almost every world record has been broken in the last 10 years.

Do you think Arnold knew about diet and training. In fact he was an admitted steroid user for many years and he was considered the most muscular athlete in the world and he weighed 230 pounds at 6foot 2.

I know people that have not been around this like to think of our professional athletes as super men that can do no wrong. But the reality is they do what they have to do to make millions a year.

I dont blame them for juicing. They have to and should be allow to. We expect them to entertain us with their bodies and take abuse that our bodies were not made to take. Once steroids are out their people will get them and then it creates a situation where everyone has to if they want to compete. They work. They are not the evil drug that every after school special makes them out to be. Its the serious abuse that can cause problems. Not just the use.

Oh I have no doubt this is true. But I expect you could say this about 100s of players drafted each year. they all do it. Merriman did it to excess and and that is really what the league's testing catches - they goes who do it to excess.

So let me rephrase my original statement -- his major size gains came after college and precombine ... that's when he started going overboard on the 'roids. Up until then he was using like everyone else.

Last 18 games (which covers parts of 3 seasons now)

Merriman, 4 sacks, no forced fumbles, no passes defensed, no interceptions, no fumbles recovered.

The yr after the suspension, he had 1 game with 3 sacks and 1 game with 2.5, otherwise did next to nothing.

The year after suspension he had 12.5 sacks, strong tackle #s and was voted to the probowl, despite the steroid controversy.

That's a solid season no matter how you parse it. in fact, it is similar to Ware's year in 2009.
