I absolutely agree with you on 40 times, but apparently you missed many Gophs games, as the defense was on the field most of the time and … read more did all they could to keep the Gophs in close games. The offense is what stunk it up. Marcus Sherels a third rounder????? Lay off the sauce. I love the guy, but not a chance he goes in the third. I would be surprised if he was taken before the 6th or 7th and not surprised if he was undrafted. The linebackers...one will get drafted at most and you can just pick that one out of a hat.

More from Gophers
■For U men, it's not over just yet
■Quinnipiac beats Union in five OTs
■Gophers' West is ready for the rough stuff
■U forgets to show up in Grand Forks
■West Virginia vs. Georgetown for Big East title
Marcus Sherels crossed the line, all the electronic stopwatches beeped, and then there was an audible buzz.
Sherels, a cornerback who finished his career with the Gophers last fall, was one of the pleasant surprises at Wednesday's pro day. A number of former Gophers and some other players from the region worked out for NFL scouts at the Gibson-Nagurski Complex.
Sherels was timed between 4.37 and 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash, posted a 40-inch vertical jump, had a standing broad jump of 10 feet, 2 inches and was timed between 4.03 and 4.09 in the shuttle run. His 40 time, vertical jump and shuttle times would have put him among the top three cornerbacks at the recent NFL combine. Sherels, slowed by shoulder and ankle injuries during his junior and senior seasons, has also increased his weight 14 pounds to 175.
"I've been working hard since January, and hard work pays off," Sherels said.
He and other former Gophers -- including Jeff and Nick Tow-Arnett -- have been working out with Bill Welle at Velocity Sports Performance in Champlin. Sherels' speed could move him into the middle to late portion of the draft.
Other highlights
• All three Gophers linebackers who went to the combine improved their times. Simoni Lawrence went from 4.68 in the combine to 4.56; Nate Triplett went from 4.74 to between 4.6 and 4.7; and Lee Campbell went from 4.89 to 4.79.
• Defensive linemen Eric Small and Barrett Moen each had 34 bench press reps at 225 pounds, and both were timed under 4.8 in the 40.
• Tight end Nick Tow-Arnett had 30 bench-press reps and ran between 4.68 and 4.85. His brother, center Jeff Tow-Arnett, had 29 reps and ran between 4.96 and 5.03.
