Sheriff Goodell to put Pacman on hold..

Pacman Jones has voiced a request to join the Valley Ranch circus, but he'll have to convince tough-on-crime commissioner Roger Goodell to reinstate him first. And ESPN reports that it won't be easy, citing sources that say Sheriff Goodell is unlikely to reinstate Jones immediately.
The Titans reportedly told Jones and his representatives that they'll try to trade him after he's reinstated. I can't imagine teams offering anything more than a conditional late-round pick.
UPDATE: Pacman's attorney told The Tennesseean that his client wants to stay with the Titans now. Judging by Jeff Fisher's comments over the last year, I don't believe that feeling is mutual.

It's typical of the double standards in doling out discipline by this Commish.

Say what you want about his character and all that...To get him for a 6th or 7th I'd almost have to.

Perhaps double standard was the wrong phrase to use. However, I feel that Goodell's method of doling out puishment is pretty uneven when he suspends a coach five games for treating an impotence problem while giving a slap on the wrist to the Patriots for cheating.

Goodell has a history now. He's shown himself incapable of fair punishment based on precedent and common sense. He's shown that without a firm set of standards detailing appropriate punishment, he will judge - not with a fair eye - but more prone to public outcry and whimsy.

If he feels the public is outraged, he throws the book, in varying degrees of severity for no apparent reason. If he thinks the public won't mind, he lays up a bit. His followers (like that ***-clown, JJT) are more than happy to suck him off no matter what. He's shown that he requires a set of standards to judge from. He's not fit for such a totalitarian role

The Titans letting Pacman Jones go to another team would be a huge error on their part.

This is not because I think he's going to be a superstar again or something- I simply don't know either way on that. But consider the risk for them: nil. He's still in his rookie contract, so he's not costing them much money at all to keep him around. So why trade him, when you know he's got the talent, for a low-level draft pick?

You can't compare this to the Randy Moss situation, where he was making much too much money to continue to pay him for production that wasn't happening. It makes no sense for them to trade Pacman Jones unless they get a good pick out of it- which they won't.

He isn't getting reinstated right away cause he's gotten in trouble WHILE suspended. He's an idiot, that's why he keeps getting in trouble.

I pray to God that he is NEVER allowed to play here. He's a moron and shouldn't even be allowed in the league.

I can understand your concern.

I guess it would be simple if we had a chart for punishments.

If you do this, then you get this.

If you do this, then you get this.

We do have that with respect to violations of the NFL's drug policy.

But the situations with the Pats and Wade Wilson were precedent-setting, meaning they had never been done before, at least not to my knowledge.

So it's a bit more difficult to assign inequity to the punishments in these cases, though I do agree with you the Wade Wilson punishment was too harsh.

I guess this gives new meaning to the phrase "evaluating on a case-by-case basis."

All Pacman needs to do is to work out a deal to be a Patriot. Goodell will break the land speed record to get to his office to sign the reinstatement papers.

Amazing how slowly but surely, people are starting to get that now.
