Rivals.com reported that an NFL insider said the Dallas Cowboys secretly love Texas-ex wide receiver Jordan Shipley but are trying to conceal their interest because they want to see if they can draft him in the third round.

The Cowboys are interested in the idea - which has also been discussed by ESPN - of Shipley in the slot with Miles Austin and Roy Williams on the outside and are looking to "shop" Patrick Crayton.

The Cowboys would consider spending a second-round pick on Shipley if he would be gone by the third, but they'd rather pick him in the third.

Looks like now that this has leaked out, expect the Boys to pick him up in the second if WRs start to come off the boards. For all of us Shipley=Welker2.0 fans this news is music to our ears. 2010 WR lineup: Austin, RW11, Shipley, Ogletree? Apparently this is now becoming more and more possible

There's only one Wes Welker, and it aint Jordan Shippley. I don't hate the guy, but I'd throw-up in my mouth if we used a 2nd round pick on him.

No to Shipley in the 2nd Round I want OL and S first two picks. If they have to wait until Round 3 or 4 look at Emmanual Sanders from SMU hes a good one !!!

We're hearing about a Rivals.com report citing an unnamed NFL source who says the Cowboys are hiding their interest in Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley.

A word of advice with two weeks until the draft begins: Take these rumors with a grain of salt. As former scouting director Gil Brandt called it yesterday, April in the NFL is "The Great Liars Convention." Teams often attempt to hide their true feeling by leaking misinformation.

On the subject of Shipley, why would anyone within the Cowboys front office let out that kind of information, if they really were concealing their intention to draft him? That's the point of concealing it, right?

Though Shipley could bring an upgrade to the return game, and is high school teammates with third quarterback Stephen McGee, he was not invited to Valley Ranch for a visit. Does that mean the Cowboys are trying to cover up the fact they like him, or that they just aren't interested? It could go either way.

Just don't take as gospel any of these reports about who the Cowboys like or don't like.

no it means he has been playing in the cowboys backyard and they have an inside source(mcgee) that can tell them what they need to know about his personality and work ethic so they have no need to show interest in him even if they do want him.

I hope not. In the 3rd round, sure, but in the 2nd round? You look to get a starting-caliber player and it's still possible to land a future #1 WR in the 2nd round. Shipley will be a #3 WR with potential to be a #2 WR at best. No disrespect to him.

I'd pick him up in the 3rd round. 2nd is pushing it because we can fill OL & S needs in the 1st and 2nd with good prospects. If there isn't a OL or S that fits our needs or don't really grade where we pick them, then I'd pick up Shipley.

The only real info leak that I've seen recently near the top of the draft was the Skins' love for Jason Campbell when they traded into the first round before the draft. That collection of morons running the team tried to diffuse the report that they had a crush on Campbell, then drafted him anyway after the rest of the league determined that he was a second rounder at best. And then they enjoyed several years of his mediocrity before moving on to McNabb.

Somehow, despite Jerry's flaws, I don't think he's going to allow real information to leak out pre-draft. He's probably too busy lining up a reality show or selling tickets to the 2040 implosion of Jerry World.

:laugh2:

I think it's obvious that the Cowboys source would leak the information to get some internet cred.

That stuff is pretty important, you know.

I'm a Texas alum and would love for the cowboys to take him because he's going to be a good slot receiver for someone. I'd be surprised if it's true, though. Shipley has had a lot of injury problems and I would imagine teams that are genuinely interested would bring him in for a visit so their medical staff can take a look at him.
