Fantastic, It looks like Fred Phelps and his crazies are going to haunt the funerals of the people that got killed. Just what this situation needs, a crazed American religious terror institution to make it all better.

If Phelps does this one, he'll need police protection...

It will likely shorten his pitiful life...

Too say that guy is a loon is putting it mildly. If I was a family member of one of the people killed the police would either be taking me to jail or have to look the other way.

Thats a haunting video, but you have a point. What in the hell were those cops doing? I assume they were cops from what they are wearing, if anyone wants to proove me wrong, thats okay. They were walking around doing nothing listening to people being murdered in cold blood. Truly unbelievable.

I was wondering the same thing how can they be walking around outside while defenseless children are being murdered inside the building. I don't get it.

Indeed, a very tragic incident.

The one thing I am concerned about is that this may some how buoy others into taking similar action.

I share your frustration, however, they probably did not know that those shots were killing people inside at that instant. For all they knew, the shots were coming at them, from multiple locations and multiple shooters. There are rules of engagement, and procedures for law enforcement. Using excessive force and rash judgment or acting without orders can be extremely harmful.

I'm certain that the police were trying to figure out exactly what was happening, the fog of war combined with the multitude of rules of engagement they operate under prevented them from doing what hindsight tells us they should have done. Law enforcement does a thankless job during these tragedies.

You're right, someone needs to enforce a "disturbing the peace" law or something and lock those freaks up!!!
They need to sit in a prison cell for a while.

Im sorry but its pretty sad that it took them 30 lives to figure out what was going on and to get in there. Granted law enforcement is a thankless job and most of their great work goes unnoticed, but situations like this is when we need them to be at their best and to act in a timely fashion.

The same complaint was made about Columbine concerning the police not rushing in. The explanation was that the first priority is to secure the perimeter to make sure there is no escape and/or that those rushing out will be safe, while awaiting for the assault (swat) squad. Don't know if this is an effective tactic, but it is one that needs to be looked at.
