For me, and probably most all of you, it is exrusingly painful to watch the Cowboys lose on Sunday. Not just the most recent loss, but any loss for that matter. Especially since the team has made so many smart picks in the draft the past few years. Also, the team has locked up most, in not all, our star players with long-term deals. And to top it all off, they made tremendous steps by signing key free agents in the offseason as well as making a (imo) a great trade mid-season.

I'd like to know what your thoughts are on two key issues - 1. What shall we do, in detail, in the short-term to get back on track this season? And - 2. What are your thoughs/opinions on what moves to make after this season (depending whether or not we make the playoffs) to ensure future successful seasons?

I guess this is a poor attempt at therapy. I can't bear to watch ESPN. And quite frankly, I feel their commentators and anaylists are somehow biased against the Cowboys.

Thanks for your time. I look forward to your candid responses.

1. I don't think there's much we can do in the short-term other than to hope we execute better on both sides of the ball and special teams.

2. Long-term, we need to invest in more high-character players. By that, I don't just mean guys who have great off-field characteristics. Obviously that's a big part of it, but we need an influx of scrappers who have to scratch and claw to stay in the league. Guys who love to play football. We have way too many players who are physically and/or mentally weak, and we need to start exchanging those guys for high-character types even if we have a net loss in talent in the process. We need to find complimentary players to build around our core, which is this group of players:

Tony Romo
Marion Barber
Felix Jones
Leonard Davis
Andre Gurode
Marc Colombo
Jason Witten
Terrell Owens
Roy E. Williams
Jay Ratliff
DeMarcus Ware
Terence Newman

Short Term

(1) Fix team chemistry by cutting non performers. These players are divisive and throw blame on others instead of trying to rally the team to success.
Cut -- Adams, Ellis, Williams Also Cut -- Henry, Pacman

Sometimes less is more. Get rid of players who have been here more than 4 years and are not performing, overpaid whiners, non team oriented players.

(2) Fire Bruce Read (ST coach) and Brian Stewart (defensive coordinator). These guys suck and should never have been hired to coach here.

Long Term
- Character matters. Draft high character, team oriented guys
- Don't over pay for players over 28. Let them go and move on to younger talented players. Particularly over 30....heal slower, lose a few steps, etc...
- ST and DC coaches must have high energy and emotion. Emotion and Attitude play a big part in these phases of the game.
- Accountability at all levels. No more excuses or looking the other way when mistakes are made. Step up like a man, take responsibility, and fix it...or get the hell out.
- Create a Board of Excellence. Put retired cowboy players like Irvin, Aikman, etc... on the board. The team would then go to the board monthly during season, weekly during playoffs for feedback and guidance.

No, I'm a realist. If they play stupid, they deserve to lose. End of story.

I don't spend most of my time defending them or getting it in the ear from my co-workers that might be fans of other teams. Life goes on.

But by all means, rant on if it will keep you from harming your loved ones (two-legged or otherwise).

The people you mentioned, are there any cap concerns with making such moves? I don't believe there are in the case of Pacman Jones, but I'm not sure of Adams and the like.

Another worry imo. I know, without question, that Jerry Jones will make moves in order to produce wins. However, sometime he seems blinded. He even said so in a recent interview on the team's website. And yes it is definitely his team, but - would it be worth it to bring in some sort of non-biased arbitrator. Not necessarily an actual GM per se, but someone (with extensive football knowledge of course) who can ensure we are making the most sound decisions - keeping team chemistry, good character, and talent on the forefront?

This includes a review of sorts from the top and on down the line...

Do we have the best coach, coaching staff, and additional staff (non players)?

I agree. Bring in Cowler as the non biased guy right now as a consultant.
