Ok. Had some time to digest the press conference and also listen to my gut. So here goes. Bledsoe is what he is. Great arm, great size, but age has robbed him of whatever mobility he ever possessed and his release is now slower then ever. Those two glaring weaknesses offset his experience. The weaknesses also provided defensive lines the ability to tee off full bore to a spot precisely 7 yards behind the line of scrimage. I'm not sure a bunch of blind D-lineman couldn't sack Bledsoe. Pretty easy to go after a sitting target. Kind of reminds me of a Japanese aircraft carrier during WW-II without a rudder or engine power waiting for the hellcats to come rolling out of the sky.

Anyway, as Chris Simm's and others have said any quarterback being beat on gets gunshy. Doesn't matter who you are. The pounding takes its toll. Its not a question of guts, its a question of absorbing punishment. I credit Bledsoe with being one tough son of a gun. I also seeing him make worse and worse decisions almost every week.

Bledsoe can't be a bus driver. Its not in his nature, he is the gunslinger who will hold the ball forever just hoping to pull a Brett Favre and heave the rock downfield. The difference is Brett even now has twice the mobility of Bledsoe and his release is a lot quicker then Bledsoe's. Therefore given Bledsoe's genetic hard wiring and inability to throw the ball away, there wasn't much of an option other then make a QB change.

No clue how it turns out. However there is certainly more of an upside with Romo. Four years with the coach watching him practice, process information and learn tells you something. He has some skills, some moxie, some mobility and apparently good vision. I hope we all give him a fair shot at being good without any more of this nonsense about not being a draft pick, only being 6 foot 2. Only having adequate arm strength. All that same crap was said about Montana when he came out of college. I'm also guessing if Romo had played at a major school he would have played well and he would have been drafted. Like the coach says, this has a chance of being something special.

Let's let it play out folks. We've got ten weeks to figure out whether or not this is the right thing or the wrong thing. I'd like to think at the end of the year we will have a better team then we have right now. We've had no injuries to speak of, so we just need to play better.

Lastly, this team will likely go as far as this defense take it. I felt for the most part the defense was most of the problem the other night. Last I checked Romo (nor Bledsoe) plays defense. The D didn't even look fired up. No one was swarming to the ball and no one was hitting. As the coach said three out of 12 or 13 defensive players played well. No wonder we lost. I'm just hoping both sides of the ball turn it up on Sunday.

Romo probably isn't a savior, he's just a better option then anything else we have. Lets play it out and see what happens, as really we don't seem to have any other choice anyway. Just remember we are fans and we have to support our team good or bad. I'm just glad we have a coach who has the nads to take a chance for more the just being mediocre. PS> I live outside of Washington, and Joe Gibb's won't remove Brunell for a first round pick with a big arm, great size and an upside, when Brunell just plain sucks. The Commanders are 2 and 5 and Gibbs is still afraid to pull the trigger. I rest my case. GO COWBOYS..:)

I agree with 99% of what you wrote. I'd just like to point out that the D didn't have much of a chance with all the turnovers and mistakes in our own territory. That said, they did look about as bad as I've seen them all season.

excellent post..

drew bledsoe had a pretty damn good year last year.
this year he looks like he's never played a down in the nfl..

i'm wondering if the concussions have caught up with him along with age.

anyways......you're absolutley right about romo.

he is our best option at the moment with our piss poor o-line.

but maybe..just maybe he will provide the spark this whole team needs so desperately right now.

:pray2:

Lane, I don't think there's any doubt that he'll provide a spark...that spark was visibly evident when he played the second half Monday night. What we really must hope is that the spark ignites a fire that burns hotly for the remainder of the season. If Romo doesn't show some promise pretty quickly, that spark will die. Getting the team back on track after that will be like trying to light a wet match. Personally, I think the fire is about to be lit!
