Shorten Preseason/Elongate Regular Season?

Just my thoughts...

I'd personally like to see 2 less Preseason games and 2 more regular season games. It would be the same amount of games as is now but with 2 more meaning something and less of a preseason.

18 regular season games


The regular season is too short.
I need more.

I doubt the players would be on board. They'd essentially be trading maybe 16-20 plays spread over four games for two full 60-minute games.

I'd love to see it but I wouldn't expect it. At least the preseason gives us some fat to chew on before the real thing. Ratchets up the anticipation too.

I agree HH. 2 preseason games, 16 regular season games. You want to give the rookies a better chance to prove themselves to the coaches that they belong, increase the roster size to begin the season. Then have the final roster cut to 53 a month into the season.

I agree but the problem is the owners use the preseason games to jack up ticket prices on the season tickets so it appears they are giving fans extra "games" for their money. It's a joke but that's why the preseason is so long. I don't agree the players need 4 games to work out the kinks. We've all seen plenty of guys hold out of training camp and preseason games (Emmitt Smith, Walter Jones to name two) and step in during their first real game and not miss a beat.

I would also be soooo onboard for shortening the preseason, too. But yeah, the owners/clubs love those preseason games because they're the perfect vehicle to push regular season and season ticket packages.

Not to mention, the owners aren't required to share the preseason gate with the players as they do during the regular season. The owners would never shorten it.
