Despite Secondary Struggles, Cowboys May Have Found Hidden Gem From UFL

The Dallas Cowboys might have found another spring league gem in Ameer Speed.

Speed had 23 snaps in the win over the Texans and 45 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to PFF, he was in coverage 31 times over those two games and was targeted just twice. He surrendered only one reception for eight yards. Against Tampa Bay, he was able to play blanket coverage, allowing no receptions, which is something the rest of the secondary can't claim.
When looking at Speed, the first thing that stands out is his size. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Speed is built like a wide receiver and has no issues going toe-to-toe with the biggest players on the opposing team.

I'm still sold on the play he made this summer in camp, might as well, we can't get any worse! The fact that he's HUNGRY and doesn't have the bag already makes this better

Porter is the obvious DB1. Speed just needs to start getting more snaps on the other side. See how for real he is. But I don’t care who starts between him and Durant. I’d probably give Speed opportunities over Revel though. Revel just needs to focus on being healthy and getting better. Switch his role with Speed’s, minimal play time.

I have doubts the guy that's bounced around 5 teams in 3 seasons is a diamond in the rough. It can happen, sure. But will it?

Honestly, I think we're just desperate for something to be hopeful about with this defense. It's like when Josh Butler started playing good for one game. We need to believe things will improve somehow.

That said, I'm fully in favour of putting him out there in place of Bland, who's proven to be bad, to find out what he can do.

too small of a sample size but can he be worse than what we have seen out of the other CBs? Revel is too stiff. Bland is too soft. Durant may be too small. He's listed at 5'11" but he looks smaller to me. I am in favor of any changes at this point. That defense is the worst I've ever seen.
Official Pre-Draft Measurement
Durant: 5'9-5/8"

Bland just can’t run anymore. He falls a lot. He has never recovered from the foot injuries. His foot still isn’t right and may never be.

Once Durant is back. It needs to be JPJ, Durant and whoever else they want.

Cowboys have a huge problem on their hands on What to do with Daron Bland. He believe Durant should start with Porter when he returns, do they move him to nickel or to the bench?

As for Speed, he should be in the mix to see more reps, but not as the starter if Durant returns. Should he be higher on the depth chart then Revel, I think so, but Revel needs on field experience to get better as well

No. This is more Revel type hype. We've been told over and over again that he "has something". It hasn't really panned out so far.

They are not just stupid, they played favorites. 87 and 26 are their faviorites.
They have big contracts. So Jerry says they have to be on the field. He doesn't care if they're hurting the team. Put them boys on the field !!!
