This should be a very interesting match-up vs him this week. I really feel he’s going to after Bland and Lewis, with some misdirection plays mixed in to slow down our pursuit. Herbert is a very good qb who only has 1 int this year. Hopefully Bosa and Derwin James can't play this week, for Dak's mental sake.
If that happens, it will be the first time and show he has learned something. When he was our coordinator, he never targeted specific defenders, nor did he scheme to feed his own players (Cooper, Lamb). He calls his plays and runs the offense and expects it to work no matter who the receivers are or who the defenders are.
Moore is not going to outcoach Dan Quinn. The question is as it has always been the past few years.
- Can we stop the run game and make them one dimensional?
- Can we pressure the QB and cover in the secondary?
- Can we cut back on the stupid penalties?
So far this year, stopping the run plays to our strengths and we win.
Not stopping the run exposes the entire defense, front and back, and we lose.
McCarthy wants defensive, low scoring games. He moved on from Kellen Moore because he didn’t want to be involved in shootouts or to be passing with a lead. Our defense is not on the level of SF, the Jets, or the Browns. He needs to be aggressive on offense. In my opinion, every time he wins the toss, he should take the ball and try to put points on the board. This team just isn’t built to come from behind or compete in most shootouts.
