On the fumble play were clancy shot the gap he was lined up in the gap making it an impossible block for the center to make, with the guard pulling it makes me think the play should have been changed. Maybe the D just called the correct alignement on that play but there is not a center out there who could have blocked that guy IMO.

I was thinking along those lines. I don't agree that there isn't a center that can't make that block. Obviously Gurode can't, but he has to at least put more effort in than that. Even taking a holding penalty would have been better. I don't think the Cowboys have many audibles in the game book. Especially on a called running play.

Gurode got beat, plain and simple.
Yes he got beat but to ask a center to make that block is asking for trouble.

I think it was an impossible angle to block maybe he could have cut him but with that upfeild rush thats asking alot.

If it is such an impossible angle to block, why not rush that angle every down? It's not impossible to block, the blocking calls where not properly made at the line ... and yes, if you're being beat that badly, tackle the guy and take the penalty especially when you're that close to your own end zone.

Usually you block that guy in the gap like that with a combo block by the guard and center with the guard pulling you give that tackle a wide open lane anybody that knows o-line play could see that.

still doesn't answer the question as to why they didn't so something about it when they saw the defensive line alignment.

Gurode said the DT got a great jump. It was Andre's guy -- it wasn't the alignment. It was a DT getting lucky and guessing the snap count.

But Andre should have reached out and taken him down by the jersey. A 10 yard penalty is sometimes a very good play.

Just because the defense is aligned a certain way still doesn't mean the center should allow the tackle to plow into the QB before he can make a handoff.

I think it was a combination of the 2, alignment and great jump.

Reading through the press conference recap, Parcells blamed Gurode for not changing the blocking schemes. I had a feeling about this, but don't like to comment on something that isn't easy to confirm. It is hard to tell what the blocking schemes and line calls should be. I guess the call would have been for Rivera to block down and Gurode to pull. Anyway, I guess that answers the original question of this thread.

I read that also I kind of felt that was to much room to give ant DT. I know that was Gurodes call but you exspect your veteran right guard to see that alignement and help out.
