Should Eberflus be fired?

There are a variety of reasons to justify the axe coming down. Putting up 40 points twice and having a single win to show for it isn’t exactly a confidence boost moving forward.

I realize Parsons impacts the ability to get home. With that said, scheme and personnel use has been questionable too. We have to lead the league in blown coverage and 30+ yd plays allowed.

We can’t blitz or scheme a pass rush to get a fourth down stop. It probably won’t be long before teams stop dressing a punter. I don’t think down and distance will matter before long. Opponents will decide they’d rather go for it than punt to Turpin, or because we can kick a fg from the 50 basically. Higher rate of success on 4th and 5+ against this secondary and pass rush.Unless there is a pre snap penalty or a holding call we aren’t stopping anyone.

I think it is still too soon, but if I was Jerry I would be losing my patience for sure.

For the 3rd week in a row, the Cowboys defense made the opposing QB look like player of the week. The Packers were 10 of 14 on 3rd down. That is a ridiculous success rate. And they were 1-1 on 4th down conversions. This defense can't stop anyone. Every time Love dropped back a WR was somehow wide open for a first down. If he would dump it off to the RBs who have 10 yards of open space in front of them.

They gave up 164 yards rushing, and a 4.7 yards per carry average.

I am not sure if Eberflus is just stubborn or if the front office was remiss in putting together the LB squad, but the Cowboys LBs are the worst I have seen in a long time. Sanborn tries and he plays hard, but he doesn't have the wheels anymore. On top of that, they are all terrible tacklers. The had trouble bringing down the RBs and WRs. We are counting a lot on Overshown, when he comes back. I hope we are not expecting too much. But Sanborn and Murray are just awful football players. Liufua gets a chance to play more and shows he is not what we thought either. His 15 yard penalty for a late hit was about as dumb as it gets. But he and Sanborn were in position to make a big stop on one of the little flare outs that the Packers were killing us with all night, and both guys missed the tackle. This problem is not going to get fixed this season unless they make a trade for a real LB.

Who replaces him if he is fired and will that change how the players perform? It might get worse

Eberflus has refused to bring in better players. Could have brought in old veteran 39 year old DT Calais Campbell during training camp, but he refused due to age (meanwhile, Calais Campbell is tearing it up at Arizona). Eberflus did the same to refuse to bring back 33 year old MLB Eric Kendricks who led our team last year in tackles and is excellent in pass coverage (key subjects Eberflus' LBs badly suck at that this defense needs help in). So, absolutely, Eberflus is directly responsible for any "lack of talent" this defense is currently lacking. He should have been fired 2 weeks ago, especially since he directly is costing this team this season.
Eberflush doesn't bring in players. He has nothing to do with the lack of talent. This has Jerry and Son all over it. This is Football 101.

Now, if you want to talk about how putrid Eberflush is in regards to schemes and actually getting players to play, I totally agree. But after the Joneses actually make things right again with the roster

The question surely needs to be considered by the Cowboys. We as fans have no insight into how he’s doing other than the results on the field which have been abysmal. Is it mostly coaching or is it mostly the players? Without being there every day with the team and observing first hand, we as fans have no idea how he is with the players.

I’d be interesting to hear @Ranching thoughts on the topic.
Yes. This team will be a 5 win team if the defense doesn't change. Dak and the offense can't be nearly perfect every week, and that's what it will take to get a win with this defense.

It absolutely cannot get any worse.

Well he has a 2 year deal and will be here no matter what. It is a guaranteed contract and you know how Ebenezer, I mean Jerry, feels about money.

So two years and you will like it.

I wish. But there is no chance. Even Nolan got to finish the year.

someone needs to tell him he does not need to use his complete bench, sheesh.

You think that's up to Eber?

Quit hating on people.

I don’t think it matters for this season.

If they want to fire him. Fine.

But the players just aren’t good enough. Your linebackers give you nothing. Your secondary is bad. The pass rush is almost non existent.

I don’t see how a mid year DC change fixes that.

Only if you believe scheme alone is the issue.

Only if you ignore the blatant fact that the Dallas linebackers are terrible. The safeties aren't good at playing safety.

We have a severe talent shortage at LB, CB, and S, but it's on the DC.

Honestly, look past your need for a scapegoat. Do a little research and evaluation instead of just whoopin' n hollerin'.

Was more important is that the Marinelli scheme is scrapped for next season, never to be seen again.

Do not waste any draft capital for this scheme.

On defense, 4th and 6 to win the game in OT, and Eb calls another vanilla Cover 2 zone, a defense where the LBs are sure to leave holes in the middle for an easy completion. And sure enough, a wide open receiver in the middle for the first down.

If there was ever a time to call man, it's then...and if need be, spy their QB or bring a 5 man pressure. You could still keep 2 safeties deep. Plus, the Cowboys should have removed those sorry LBers and been in a Dime, so that you have some speed to cover their swift TE and WR3. Nope....let's call a zone, not disguise it, and pray the Packers simply make a mistake.

Eb is bad, he really is....

He has a chance to get it corrected the next few games. Well, at least looks to be corrected until they face Washington (maybe), then Denver, not sure about Arizona yet.
Tyler on AZ kills us everytime. He will destroy this defense.

I’m leaning towards giving him some more time. But things will have to get better and fast.
I hate to say it, but yeah.

I see a world with Overshown back and healthy. Diggs/Bland being healthier and Revel coming in later in the season. People want to talk about Diggs/Bland and they’ve been burned plenty this year, but a lot of the time they’re not off by a lot. Diggs doesn’t move like he’s completely washed imo and Bland literally just looks like he’s fighting pain every snap. And if the edge rushers figure it out…Houston plays more, Clowney fits in, maybe the rookie and Kneeland improve. Sam Williams is most useful at containing RB’s and fast QB’s

Should have never been hired.

But yes. After the Giants he shouldn’t have been allowed back in the building.

Dak seems to finally have it all together and is playing great, and our defense especially on the back end and LBs are absolutely trash with a terrible scheme. It’s how it works in Dallas
