I think this is what we need to do come camp, treat everyone like they are a knucklehead rookie. And I mean from the new rookies up to the oldest members of the team.
Martellus came in with a lot of talent, but he was raw and perhaps unfocused. To counter that the staff was on him 24/7, making him run drills at full speed despite how much he pouted, reminding him of the little intricacies of the game that many people take for granted.
They didn't curse him out, they didn't try and embarrass him by making him run laps for every little mistake, they didn't threaten his job. They simply said, we know you've got skill and think you know everything, but we are going to demand perfection in practice so we can see all that on the field come Sunday.
It worked, he made rookie mistakes along with everyone else and has a long way to go, but I don't remember once seeing him out there and thinking, "What the hell is he doing?", I can't say the same for a lot of the vets.
