Should I worry about Escobar?

He looked very bad last night. I saw a couple plays where he should have been called for holding, including Zeke's TD, in addition to the ones called. I just don't want to lose our running game. It's so much fun to watch.

The running game has suffered once we lost Swaim to injury and Escobar had to step in to block on 2 TE sets. Escobar has been extremely disappointing for a 2nd round draft pick. His 2 penalties killed 2 drives last night, which could have been the difference in a close game.

The 2nd round pick that keeps on kicking you in the peanuts. Part of me is eager to see him go. Part of me is eager to see the staff utilize him in a way that maximizes his strengths (catching & running) and minimizes his weaknesses (blocking).

He isn't a blocking TE. If anything he should be out there mainly for passing plays, but we are two tight ends short.

I don't think you should worry, however I think that Escobar needs to worry about keeping his place on the team.

I mean, drafting a replacement for a first-ballot HOFer is extremely difficult. We've tried. And we got Escobar and a bunch of others bums I can't even care to remember.

I think the team is playing a role in screwing this up too. Escobar is what he is, a soft, pass catching tight end who struggles to block. But rather than acknowledge that and play to his strengths, the team continues to try to force a round peg into a square hole.

And the compound that mistake with trying to put Vince Mayle out there to struggle as well, rather than to bring in a tight end who can actually block, like Austin Traylor.

Two wrongs not making a right in my opinion.

I'm not worried at all. He's been getting the job done, and he had two questionable holds....it's not like he's grabbing jerseys or wrapping his arms around guy's necks. Tyron has had plenty of penalties too, and even Zeke got in the holding act last night with a bad angle and lack of patience. Escobar isn't great; never will be, but he's been better than expected.
