Should pass interference be challengable?

With so many forms of physical contact being outlawed in the NFL, rewrite the pass interference rules to allow more contact before the ball is in the air. And simplify the rules so that calls are more easily made.

Between the flags, routine replays, and excessive commercials, the game is becoming less watchable.

I think it should be similar to facemasking. The base penalty should be 15 yards, but Flagrantly breaking the Rule (T-New Choking out brandon Marshall) should be a spot foul

I didn't say ever play should be reviewed. I said every type of play should be reviewable.

That's saying the same thing. If you allow anything to be reviewed, the game will become a four plus hour marathon of constant stoppages.

It's a terrible idea.

They changed the facemask penalty. All violations are 15 yards now.

How? There are only so many challenge flags to go around and I think a majority of the time they mostly get used anyway.

This isn't a good idea. If this were the case, DBs would intentional commit pass interference every time they were beat by an opposing WR for a deep bomb.

"This WR is scorching me and will make the catch. Instead of surrendering a 45-yard touchdown pass, I'll just bear-hug him to prevent him from catching the ball, and make it only a 15-yard penalty instead."

so a play like Newman made that might take away a TD would only be 15 yards? That would be terrible, you'd see CBs tackling WRs all the time

So? They're still getting a large chunk of yardage for their efforts. Obvious "tackles" aside...the rule is dumb.

That's a better outcome than some of the ticky tack crap they call now that completely changes the outcome of games.

No way, no how should a team be given 60 yards because a CB bumps the arm of a receiver.

How about they (receivers) just learn to get open and/or catch the ball under pressure.

Ever play 500?

Makes me wonder how receivers ever caught passes before pass interference....

Well, if you're gonna open up the entire game to reviews, you're gonna increase the amount of challenges per game. You'd have to. Or you'd be creating a ton of situations where bad calls are made that determine games and reviews can't be made because teams are out of challenges.

And calls like interference are subjective anyway. What one official would deem interference another might consider incidental contact. It's not something definitive like a fumble where the ball is either out before the knee is down or it isn't.

I just hate the idea of more booth reviews. We already have too many. People are far too worried about the officiating in the league. I suppose it's a defense mechanism when your team isn't good enough.

Anything and everything should be reviewable. PI, holding,etc..... As long as the number of challenges is limited I see no reason why a coach shouldn't be able to challenge any call or non-call. If it makes games longer then so be it. I would rather a game be officiated properly. I absolutely hate when the refs decide games with bad calls and not calling blatantly obvious infractions!

Uh...no. You still have a limit on the number of reviews a coach can request.

Maybe a 15-yard penalty, but eject any defensive player who commits 3 pass interference or more penalties in the same game?

That would prevent DBs from deliberately tackling WRs in order to limit them to 15-yard gains instead of 50-yard gains.

It only takes one to change the outcome of the game...

15 Yard Penalty has worked in college ball just fine. College ball is way less impacted by refs as well.

You make it a 15 yard rule and you'll see more PI calls. Far far far more. CBs would be trained to take the WR out rather than risk big yardage plays. The game would degrade into the unwatchable.

Hasnt affected College negatively. 15 and a first down isnt something any team wants to give up. Plus is gives the defense back some. Its too offensive oriented now. CB is hard enought to play no hand to face, no bumps after 5,etc etc ridiculous. Everson Walls and Lester Hayes could never play now.

That hasn't been the case in college....and I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the game is already well on its way to becoming unwatchable. At this rate I'll be watching nothing but College Football, Rugby, and Hockey in 10 years.

It used to be a game for men. Now it's a game for millionaires that need constant coddling and protection.

The spot foul is way too much penalty in MOST cases. I would go to 10 yds for a minor offense and the spot foul for the flagrant interference. The biggest problem with the rule as is, is that you assume the WR is going to catch the ball. So shouldn't offensive interference be ruled an interception?

College is a very very different game in case you haven't noticed. You are far far less likely to find evenly matched players. You see far fewer situations where great receivers are matched with guys who can cover them 25+ yards down the field. Even the elite teams play half their games against truly inferior competition. Contrast that to the NFL where most teams have 3 or more guys that can decently stick with just about any WR for much longer. You'd see far more use of the "hack a Shaq" approach in the NFL if it only brought 15 yards ... or 1/2 the distance to the goal. No one wants to watch that crap.
