Should playing a mobile QB concern us moving ahead

Team has suffered 5 losses this season. Take a closer look, all 5 teams have one thing in common, they had the mobile QB:

1-Newton
2-Wilson
3-Watson
4-Smith
5-Marriota

Should we be concerned facing another, such as Wilson in a few weeks in the playoffs? Perhaps, getting that #3 seed is more of a easier road, although unlikely to happen.

Good point.. Must be a point of emphasis

I would have to know what the average ppg given up in those 5 games. Is compared to the rest of the season.

I think the offense was the reason we lost most of those games. Not because the defense particularly struggled against a mobile QB.

True, offense did little to help, it was not like any of those teams put up big stats on the defense.

What helps that? Interior closing of the pocket so the QB can't escape through the middle. We do a pretty good job of that. That only leaves an escape outside the pocket. Our two young LB'ers have progressed enough that we should be able to contain them now with our team speed.

DE's not taking wide angles around the Tackles or getting sucked inside. Fast linebackers would deff help the cause tho, but those misdirection plays can use your speed against you. In other words, running really really fast right outta the play..

They'll be alright though.

I would use a player to "spy" on the QB like Jaylon, or Lewis. That could help mitigate the running QB.

It's not immobile QBs don't go down for the year. Brady, Palmer, Rodgers have all gone down for significant time. If I was to rank my concerns about Dak, being mobile isn't one of the top ones.

I HATE playing mobile QB's. Always have. But I think the defense is good enough to slow down any offense.

Good point, but I wouldn’t worry too much considering how much speed this defense has sideline to sideline. I really only remember Cam & Marriotta doing damage outside of the pocket.

intriguing point, but that was in the first 8 games - it's a new team now...I think our defense is WAY more mobile now as well....

Its a concern but we didn't lose those games because of those guys running. We lost because our offense sucekd and coudln't put up any points. Panthers, Seahawks, Commanders and Texans didn't put up many points against us. That Titans game I don't know what happened.

All of those games were lost on offense.

And of all those teams........the only one we'd potentially see in the playoffs are the Seahawks.....Goff isn't mobile, neither is Brees......

Game 1 the read option killed us I remember that

Watson and mariotta killed us with an scramble i believe but the offense struggle was and is real

No it shouldnt. A pocket passer even seems to evade a lot of our sacks. No difference really. A Mobile QB would keep this defense on its toes.

This is a good point.

Our Defense however there's really no point doing mathematics to avoid this type of problem. At some point in the playoffs the D will be tasked to do the following:

1. Contain a high powered offense (Rams/Saints)
2. Hold serve against a team that has as good a defense as ours. (Bears/Vikings)
3. Stop a Mobile QB. (Seahawks/Panthers)

We can't run from the matchups. It's going to be a hard task regardless. But we do have a very good defense, and we might show to be a problem for any of the teams we matchup with as well.

I'm hoping the Cowboys can avoid Seattle altogether. Hopefully we win out and Chicago loses one more. I think we'll get 3rd seed.

The OP's post is misleading.

Against mobile Qbs (Cam, Wilson, Watson, Bortles, Smith, Marriotta, Wentz (2)...we've permitted 19.6 points per game

Against pocket Qbs (Manning, Stafford, Colt, Breeze, Ryan) we've permitted 17.8 points per game.

Not much difference.
