Should Romo simplify his cadence calls?

This is in no way a Romo bashing thread.

I watch the Oline commit penalty after penalty during a game and try to figure out what the problem might be. I know there's a good chance our Oline is going to get beat physically numerous times but there is no excuse for being beat mentally time after time One it's not just one player that's guilty but three or four. So, that tells me there could be something other than the individual players causing the problem.

I watch Romo in his pre snap signals, calls, hand gestures and of course have no idea what's going on except assuming this will all help the team. I then see him get behind center(shot gun) and see him go through a series of leg lifting no snap then more barking of signals another leg lift possible snap. I've set there watching my TV and having no idea when the snap is coming. It's very confusing to me. That's good, it's got to be confusing to the Defense, right. Well, could it possibly be confusing the Oline as well, I think it's very well possible. So, just simplifying the cadence call could possibly solve a majority of these penalties.

Do you feel this could be part of the problem?

yes, i do. i miss aikman's clear, concise, strong cadence that would penetrate thru your screen when watching on tv. romo is way too disorganized pre-snap.

Honestly, there's no excuse for this particular problem. And especially not at home. It shouldn't matter what the cadence is, or how long the guys are in their stances. They just can't jump.

It's possible that the problem is with Romo.

All 9 false start penalties have come from the LT/RT/TE; the guys on the outside.

Good news is that it's likely fixable.

If Romo does not call plays off or change plays things will get a lot worse not better. OL is going to have to do a better job of holding their postion until the snap.

I can't see how that is on Romo. He's been the QB here for a while. Doug Free has played with him for several years.

I think this is a problem with Cook not snapping when he should. The inside guys can simply look at the ball and not move until the C moves it. The outside guys rely on the cadence and if the C is off, it screws them up.

I stubbed my toe today. Could it possibly be because of Romo?

I'm amazed at the number of fans that don't get what Romo is doing at the line and why...though I guess I shouldn't be.

That's not really correct. The outside guys rely on the cadence more than the interior guys. Honestly, I think they did a little better when it was really loud as they couldn't use the cadence to time the snap. The outside guys are far more likely to go based on the snap count. That's sorta why you have a snap count.

Seems to me that the most likely explanation is that Cook is still learning the cadence and is causing a ton of false starts when he doesn't snap the ball on time.

I agree. I also noticed in yesterdays game most of the snaps happened with 5 sec or more on the clock. No doubt if a QB does not make the needed changes as he get to the line the mistakes with be a lot more costly, each and every QB does it you have to

:laugh2:

everytime I hear/read a comment like that I just think of Lebron James. Everything is Tony Romo's fault until he wins a SB (notice how no one talks about LJ anymore since he got his ring?)

you could add Dirk to that list as well.

what he's doing is not unique to him. brady does it. so does manning. but they do not have the chaos we have. a lot of times it's the oline's fault but romo deserves blame too sometimes for being so dang slow.

Probably true, but both offense and especially defenses are WAY more complex than back then as well.
It's a real chess-match at the line of scrimmage in today's game.

I know it's not unique to Romo. That's why I'm surprised people don't get it.

The false start epidemic with the Cowboys goes back before Romo, even as far back as Aikman's last year or two. This a discipline problem linked to coaching, the coaching problem is linked to you know who.

But thing is that it's fixable. I'm not hating on Romo. Sucks we can't blame it on a bum ear anymore :)

It's Cook not Romo.
Disagree. This has been a problem much much longer than Cook has been here. Several years.
