Should the Cowboys try to bring back DT Justin Rogers?

The Dallas Cowboys drafted DT Justin Rogers with one of their two 7th round draft picks in 2024. Justin Rogers looked good at times during training camp and during preseason. Sadly, the Cowboys cut him at the end of preseason while signing old DTs Jordan Phillips and Linval Joseph.

Everyone saw how poor both Jordan Phillips and Linval Joseph performed against the Saints. 2nd year DT Mazi Smith did not fair much better. Clearly, the Cowboys interior D-line is in bad shape and needs better talent.

Justin Rogers was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals and currently is on their practice squad. Should the Dallas Cowboys approach him and be willing to bring him back in case Jordan Phillips or Linval Joseph keep struggling and get cut?

What say you?

I reached out overnight to Justin Rogers via his X (previously known as Twitter) account on one of his posts showing one of his Cowboys preseason highlights. Justin still has the Dallas Cowboys listed on his X account profile bio, so clearly he still likes the Cowboys.

Here was my question to him which he responded with 'liking' my comment...

Our D line was the worst part of that loss Sunday... so I agree we need to try ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to approve against the run. Swiss cheese.

I like Mike Greene, who is listed as DT, but is more of a tweener and is better probably at edge, but I'd still look at him at least, to maybe add later.
I also like the big boy on SF practice squad, which may be a better fit right now.

Ace at this point, our DLine ( DTs ) is what it is. Might as well do the best we can with what we have......hell, it's like putting lipstick on a pig to say you won the best prizes (lol). Honestly, I would try giving DLaw some snaps at DT and why the hell we aren't seeing more of Bell. He was a monster last season against the run. I know he played out of position at LBer but still put his ____ in at SS.

The only way we’re going to fix the DT position is either to hit on one in the draft or sign a top free agent.

was Watkins listed as a DE?
Watkins has played DE for the 3 34 front teams he has played for… Texans, Cardinals, Rams. The Rams released him on cut down day… the skins picked him up for their practice squad. Whoever does their website roster didn’t bother changing his position designation!

Watkins lined up in the middle of the Cowboys D as T. Young enough to not be washed up .

In watching the unholy Saints track mud into the Art Gallery they ran wide wherever and whenever . Bringing in former Cowboys castoffs at DT won’t help the exposed edge .

At this point they aren't going to change much bringing in veterans off practice squad or off the street. It's time for the Jimmy Johnson revolving door. Bring in some young guys and see if any of them have potential. Cut the rest.

I'd bring back Justin Rogers, He played with the rest of the Cowboys in camp and has a shorter learning curve. I thought I saw something in him in pre-season. He looked strong enough. He was better than Phillips. If he's not good waive him and sign someone else.
