Should the Dallas Cowboys extend Tony Pollard?

Sport Trac has his market value at 3 years $27 million (probably $21 or $22 million guaranteed).

Extending him would lower his cap hit for this season and would create $5-6 million in cap space this season.

Should Dallas extend him on a deal where his market value is?

I'm guessing Dallas will wait until after the draft to offer any extension in case the they get the RB they want and are confident can be the RB1 in 2024.

If you cant sack the QB, Protect the QB or intercept the QB, I'm not giving you much of a payday if I AM the gm.

There is no way he would sign that, that seems short enough for me to sign. Anything longer than 3 years would be a mistake though.

A contract would likely have to give him 2 1/2 years of guaranteed money.

It's in his best interest to get guaranteed money so his agent should want to make a deal. I'm fine with a contract that guarantees him 2 1/2 years of money. I think he has low enough mileage as long as they get him a new partner to share the backfield. RBs in today's game should be all about how many explosives they give you.

I know the Zeke contract is making us all very hesitant to spend money on an RB, but I say extend him, if they plan on using him the right way, as a weapon, and not strictly as an RB, that catches the ball once or twice a game on simple flares. He should only get about ten conventional runs per game, let a rookie get the other ones. Instead, he should be used all over the field.

A couple of things to keep in mind:
One, by the end of his fourth year, he had way fewer touches than Zeke at the same point of his career. I think he has three more good years.

Second, his running style is very different than Zeke. Zeke liked to take on guys to end plays, and it cost him. He ran much more like MBIII. Pollard likes to avoid contact and will often run out of bounds to end a play. His running style is much more like Emmitt's.

I wouldn't. Play him on the franchise deal, draft a running back in the first few rounds, then if that back looks like he can take over the lead role, move on next year and draft another back to pair with the new one (except drafted a little lower the second time). Running backs have a hard time living up to second contracts because of the wear and tear on their bodies. Pollard doesn't have as much wear and tear at this point, but there's some evidence that his body might not hold up to a heavier load.

Pollard can't protect the QB for sure. They best work on that in TC.

Maybe Dak should have Pollard come out to his back yard and work on that in the off season.
Some fans on here can go volunteer to be pass rushers.

Hell no, play out the franchise tag, look at what other running backs are signing this off season, between 2 and 6 mil a season..... depending on what Pollard does this season, either offer him a two year deal or move on.....no way are you giving running backs long term deals in todays NFL..

Yeah. We have way too many weapons to be paying pollard
Nothing against Pollard, I was just saying he is not worth the $10 million tag.
Do I want him on the team, yes, but not at that price. No team was going to give him that offer coming off a broken leg and some ligament damage.

Read what all these other good running backs are signing for right now. PS. Not much. I would say what your proposing with only 2 years of guaranteed money would be the most I would offer.

POLLARD SUPERIOR IN THE PASSING GAME

During his time in the league, Elliott has developed a reputation for being a strong pass-blocker. But Pollard took a huge step forward in this area in 2022, which has allowed him to play more third-down snaps.

Pass protection used to be a weakness of Pollard’s game. He failed to earn a pass-blocking grade above 55.0 in each of his first three seasons, and he allowed his quarterback to get sacked or hit on 8.9% of his snaps over that entire period, 80th among 81 qualifying running backs.

However, his 74.4 pass-blocking grade currently ranks ninth out of 62 running backs. And with five weeks left, he has already set a career-high in pass-blocking snaps played. The former Memphis Tiger has also fared better as a pass-patcher, as his 68.6 receiving grade betters Elliott's 41.8 and ranks 14th among qualifying running backs.
