You draft a running back and make him play out his entire rookie contract...... If he is playing well you extend it to two years max or use the franchise tag ..... No more big contracts for a running back unless they are the second coming of Emmitt Smith.

Sport Trac has his market value at 3 years $27 million (probably $21 or $22 million guaranteed).

Extending him would lower his cap hit for this season and would create $5-6 million in cap space this season.

Should Dallas extend him on a deal where his market value is?

I'm guessing Dallas will wait until after the draft to offer any extension in case the they get the RB they want and are confident can be the RB1 in 2024.

No because he'll be hurt soon and won't ever be the same back, and we will be calling for his release saying we should have never paid him lol

Where do you guys come with stuff
If anything they should rescind the tag and sign a FA cheaper and draft a RB

I love Tony Pollard and been begging for him to get more carries...but more years...no. Unfortunately, it just makes no business sense. There are very few RBs I'd consider giving a 2nd contract to.

Coming off a serious injury I would let him play on the franchise tag this upcoming season and see how it goes. This way we’re not committed long-term if he shows some decline.

For that cost I'd be willing to do it. I'd still draft a back and plan on cutting TP in year 3.

I know the Zeke contract is making us all very hesitant to spend money on an RB, but I say extend him, if they plan on using him the right way, as a weapon, and not strictly as an RB, that catches the ball once or twice a game on simple flares. He should only get about ten conventional runs per game, let a rookie get the other ones. Instead, he should be used all over the field.

A couple of things to keep in mind:
One, by the end of his fourth year, he had way fewer touches than Zeke at the same point of his career. I think he has three more good years.

Second, his running style is very different than Zeke. Zeke liked to take on guys to end plays, and it cost him. He ran much more like MBIII. Pollard likes to avoid contact and will often run out of bounds to end a play. His running style is much more like Emmitt's.
Except neither Emmitt or Zeke ever broke their leg.
