Should the team ask Ware to take a pay cut?

Think a wage reduction ala Doug Free.

It's pretty obvious he's not living up to his contract these past two years. With the Cowboys' cap situation being in rather dire straits next year, it would probably be the best way to address the issue, rather than simply cutting him and dealing with all the dead money proration.

I don't know that he'd accept the pay cut anyway, but I figured it'd be a nice topic for discussion after Monday night's debacle.

Yeah they should, but if he doesn't accept they better be prepared to cut him, otherwise whats the point? They should be asking everybody except Dan Baily and LP Ladouceur to take a pay cut.

It's a tricky situation. I dont think he'd take it. He was looking great before the quad.

You couldn't get him to take enough of a pay cut. Cutting him is really the only option, imo.

I think you let him go. As hurtful as that would be, Ware has been an outstanding player, on field and off. But his body has taken a beating and I really dont want to watch him struggle out there game after game, makes me sad

Even if he cuts his pay in half I still dont think hes worth keeping. We could get a DE way more productive then him for what we'd pay him.

It'd have to be a HUGE paycut. Doubt he would agree to it since he's set to make 12.25mil next year. Is he worth 2mil per sack? It'll be interesting to see how they handle this situation.

Nothing really interesting at all. They will simply go to the Bank of DeMarcus just like they will do with Austin and turn cap space into bonuses and stretch the credit card mentality even further.

Yes. Romo too. And Austin and Carr and Spencer.

The team should ask them all to take pay cuts. They're not winning.

NFL contracts of that size really ought to have something in them for winning as well. If you're not helping your team produce W's and you're making that kind of money you ought to have to drop your pay some. I know that's not feasible or realistic though.

Not sure the fan base has any understanding of how the cap works.

Cutting Ware really doesn't help much in the short term.

He is owed ~9m in dead money. Even if split over 2 seasons that is a lot.

What would work is to have Ware except a reduction in next year's base salary from 12.5m to say 7.5 m.
We'd then hand him that 7.5m all at once and add a year to the year contract. He'd cost us less than he would to release and we'd still have arguably the game's greatest pass rusher.
