Should we be worried about our linebackers?

Mark my words. With Zach on board it will completely change our defense. Yeah he's old, but this guy has a lot more left in the tank then the Pats LB's. And, he is FAR better then Bruschi ever thought about being.

Look at it this way, with Bradie, Zach making tackle after tackle, at least 250 tackles between them. Ellis & Ware on the outside. Tank in the middle, and Ratliff, and Canty/with another year under Wade's tutelage. Are you kidding me??? I promise look out!

I think Spencer is going to be a player also....if we can get 7-8 sacks out of him this year I'll be stoked! On another note though, MAN would Dwayne Bowe look good opposite TO??? Oh well, what could have been!!!

:welcome: & I really like your enthusiasm. I share it with you. ;)

Can I play this game too ?

Ware played DE at Troy
Spencer played DE at Purdure
Akin, played DE at Purdue and OLB for the Jags
Carp played OLB for Ohio State
Ellis played DE for North Carolina, and Dallas

We have two outside linebackers who had 14 sacks and 12.5 sacks last season, and they both went to the Pro Bowl. Their primary backup was a first-round pick last year who showed a lot of promise in his somewhat limited playing time.

We have three starting-quality inside linebackers backed up by a former second-round pick who plays well in the nickel and another former first-round pick.

What, exactly, is there to worry about? We have quality starters and quality depth. If everything goes wrong that can, the position might become a problem, but I can't imagine that too many teams have a position group where they have fewer concerns than we have at linebacker.

Yea, we are loaded at LB. However, I think Akin's days are numbered after Jerry said he could not say 100% if Akin was going to be a starter or something similar to that. (I dont remember the exact quote, but I was thinking it didnt sound to good for Akin).

If you want to worry about a postion, forget about LBs and look at CBs. We are like paper thin in that area, defiently need to address this in the draft and who knows about Pac. One day the Titans are done with him and the next day they say he is top 3 in the NFL? I think they are playing games now.

If we need to add any bodies at the position, it's another OLB to contend for the fourth spot with Justin Rogers. That's, of course, if Dallas doesn't decide to move Carpenter back to OLB.

In that case, we could add an ILB if Dallas chooses to clear Ayodele off the cap.

Either way, we're strong enough that linebacker should only be a second-day consideration unless an absolute steal falls to us in the earlier rounds.

I think it would be more accurate to say that I think we have a good OLB group. I think we have weakness at the ILB position. Who knows what Carp is. I give him some latitude because he was injured last year but I also believe that this is his last year to show up. He's got to do something. Our ILB position leaves a bit to be desired IMO. Brady is a 2 down LB. Ayodele is just unproductive. I don't know how else to view it. Barnette has used up the time given IMO.

I think we should seriously consider upgrading that positon.

I'll be surprised if he starts.

He runs a 4.98 on his best day.

If Bill thought he was done...then he's probably done.

Ok, so If you follow the thread of this back the suggestion (not by me) was that Burnett could't play OLB.

How does the above prove that he cannot?

Greg Ellis can also play DE.

But he isn't a DE.

He is an OLB.

Again, you miss the point. How is Spencer taking time away from Burnett when they are playing different positions.
