Should we cut Kitna?

I like what I've seen from McGee. I think he could be a competent backup now. But I don't think he's going to be an eventual starter, could be wrong. I'm thinking it may be time to start developing another guy, if there's someone available after roster cutdowns who could be that guy.

I just don't see what Kitna gives us, other than leadership, over McGee. If Romo is out for a significant amount of time, I think he limits our offense more than McGee does.

I'd keep him unless I can get a favorable draft pick (Mike Martz in Chicago?) for him. If we get a pick and lose him then I'd be confortable with McGee as the #2 since we're in a rebuilding year.

No. Not this year. He's still better than McGee.

I've actually pondered this as well, pep. With seeing the kid play this pre-season you could color me impressed. He's got a certain AAron Rodgers gig going on. Things don't seem to fluster this kid. Man....would I love to see him with the first unit. Just to see his true potential. I seriously doubt he'd replace Romo that's not what I'm saying but it would be nice to gage him beyond what the staff thinks of him. We may have lucked out.

So yeah, I wouldn't lose slep if Kitna was let go.

EDIT: I answered this question based upon we aren't going to the SB this year.

I don't think we "should", but i could definitely see it as a possibility now that McGee appears to be a decent backup. 3 weeks ago i would not have even considered it.

Not just yet. He is still the most experienced QB on the roster (yep, that's what I said) and it is helpful to have him available for his off field intangibles such as leadership and mentoring... not to mention a true veteran presence on the field if called upon.

McGee shows lots of potential, but I will sleep better with Kitna in the wings for just one more season.

Was wondering this myself. Not sure I trust McGee mentally, but I don't really trust Kitna physically either.

I think in the case of a backup though, you gotta go with mentally over physically, since McGee will be there as well if Kitna falls apart.

You get rid of Kitna and there's no backup to the backup plan.

I stay with Kitna this year, his contract is not that expensive and with his experience he is still an asset to the team and has shown he can come in and do a decent job. I have no problem with McGee coming in as the backup even this year if Garrett feels he is ready but since we will keep 3 QB on the team I would go ahead and keep Kitna for this season

My wife thinks Kitna and McGee are better than Romo.Everytime she sees him she says oh no Romos back in the game.I just don't get Romo because everybody says how he has progressed and he throws one in double coverage last week.I thought he really stunk it up.I am starting to think he lost it somewhere along the line.Kitna got us from the dumpster to close to the playoffs.Don't be too quick to jetison him.At least he knows how to shave and wear his hat on the right way.I am sick of the backwards hat the stubble and promises promises..

Just looking back last year at what Kitna did for us when Romo went down, I would say no. If SM continues to improve like he has every year, we might have something next year.

Seriously? You saw what you wrote, right? One?

You missed the nearly impeccable 80 yd TD drive, cause it wasn't mentioned.

BTW - you forgot the "embarassed" emoticon.

Your wife? You will pay attention to your wife's football observations, which probably she adopted from hearing you rant, over an actual football coach?

Can she teach a jump fade route?

I was generally thinking like most of you guys are. Keep Kitna another year, then look for the next QB to develop in the draft.

Is there anyone out there that could be cut though that would change your mind?

There's a story on Yahoo sports that Tebow may be falling behind UDFA Adam Weber from Minnesota, who has impressed in the Broncos camp. Not that it's a ringing endorsement of Weber, but I seriously doubt Denver cuts Tebow. They may try to sneak Weber on the practice squad.

We need 3 QBs on the roster, why would we cut a cheap proven veteran QB?
