Should we keep our 1st round picks or trade them?

Reading through the different posts, I see that people still think there are trades to take place. With that said, do you want us to give up a 1st for a player?? I feel that it benefits us to just keep or picks, get some young talent in here and develop them instead of giving up draft capital. There's also free agency to use at our discretion. Let's not over think this, just because we have 1st round picks doesn't mean we need to trade them! Please give your thoughts!

I don't like wasting 1st round picks on bad trades or bad draft picks.

I also don't like the idea of trading two 1st round picks for any player that's not a franchise quarterback and the Cowboys already have that.

This team needs a lot of help on defense so to me the best options of how to use them should be focused on maximizing the number of solid starters they can find on defense.

Whether that is through trades, drafting or signing free agents, I don't care as long as Parker thinks they fit his system and they prove to be solid players.

I hear you loud and clear, I just think we need so much, and we need to maximize what we can get to add to this team especially the defense. I would love to see us make trades during the draft to acquire more picks if we're going to make any trades.

I’d rather keep my picks and target young draft talent on rookie contracts. The only thing that bothers me is when we target guys like Guyton, Smith and Hill type of players. Guys who make noise before the draft and never should’ve been drafted as high as they were.

I agree about needing so many players.

I would be okay with trading one of the first round picks if they could pick up solid picks in the second and third rounds plus any others they could get.

sounds good to me

I would keep the picks. This team has too many needs.

If anything I would try to trade for multiple choices instead of trading away. Let's say pick 12 comes up and the Cowboys see four or five players with similar grades, they could trade down and get back into the 2nd or 3rd round. Same at 20.

Much of it, as we all know may depend on who the sign as FA's. Including some of their own.
Which not much movement has happened there. Other than tagging GP, and the tenders of a few other players.
However, they are not many URFA for them to bring back that are worth it. Time to move on.

So, draft 2 players in the 1st round, that will be starters from day 1. That along with 3 good FA's will be great.
However they also need depth.
I would not mind a few trade downs, get a 2nd and a 3rd round pick. Then have 4 players plus 2 or 3 FA's that contribute right away.

Of course that depends on who is there when they pick.
If a player is there at 12, do they take him, or can they get him if they trade down 3 spots.

You have Downs, or Styles, or Bain, do you take him. Or say if all 3 are there for some reason (no that will not happen), trade down and still get one of them.

You HAVE to have some productive players on rookie deals. If not, you either won’t win or run out of cap room and/or the ability to continue to push money down the road.

For this team, the best way to do that is with first round picks. They absolutely stink at the draft after that round. They are gold to any team, especially this one.

It would be great if we can get instant impact players at 12 and 20 but a lot of the draft experts seem to think the players who make the most sense for us to draft will be gone before we pick. If that's the case at any point in the draft, I say trade down and/or trade the picks for vets.

The Cowboys should be able to get walk in starters at 12 and 20 for the defense. Mazi, Guyton, and Taco were late first round picks. All later than our second first round pick this year. The board needs to stop whining. First round picks bust. Look at the Jets, Arizona, and Cleveland. They bust top 5 picks constantly.

I would be keeping the FRPS. It would take a very special situation for me to part with one in a trade for a player and it would be a very favorable Cowboys trade or I wouldn’t trade them for a player.

I would strongly lean toward trading down multiple times and try to get as many picks as I could between about 20 and 60. There seem to be several player that could really help the Cowboys in that range

Depending on how the board falls that range might even be in the 33-60 range. I’m getting as many picks as I can in that sweet spot.

The DT, DE, LB and Safety class have several impact players in that range and you might end up with a really good starting caliber corner with our 4th round pick, or in a slight trade up.

Almost always, I’ll be on the side of keeping the first round picks.

For me, it would have to be a great, young player for me to think about it. If Crosby would have been 24’ish I would’ve wanted the trade to happen.

Even then, I’d regret the salary cap space that would have to be allotted to the veteran player.

only way I trade is a trade back that helps us net more day 2 capital and then only if the board falls right for jt

Absolutely trade down. The Cowboys cannot afford to stand idle on day #2 of the draft. They need young players with rookie contracts.

They don't necessarily have to trade out of the 1st round. They can make a few moves and pick up 2nd and a 3rd.

12 needs to be a player like Styles….but start to look like all the top tier players will be gone by 12…

If the 20th pick is traded, it must be traded to a team that is sitting at the top of the 2nd rd and the trade must be for multiple picks.

Of course, I like how you're thinking! So are you saying trade down TO the 2nd round out of the 1st round, or trade from 20 to like 25+??
