Should Zeke just sue Goodell for slander?

At this point what does he have to lose. He's losing so much because of these obviously false allegation and obviously bogus punishment why not fight back. If Goodell has the absolute power to suspend, then Zeke should have the absolute power to sue the NFL back for slandering his good name? It's more than just lost income from not playing, it's lost income from not getting sponsorships and the like. Last year he was the biggest new player in the NFL other than maybe Dak, yet I don't think I have seen him in one commercial. You can't tell me that isn't somewhat because of these allegations. Zeke should just sue them for $100,000,000 and see what happens, what does he have to lose?

At the very least he has to sue the accuser and get her under oath, no?
His accuser doesn't have any money and doesn't control anything. By suing his Goodell he could call in the lady who investigated him (I forget her name) and his accuser as witnesses and get them under oath.

Goodell and or the league isn't making the allegation, so therefore you can't sue him for slander, Goodell found Zeke in violation of a conduct detrimental of a league policy.....
Goodell is saying that the accusation of a woman who said she would ruin Zeke is credible despite all evidence otherwise. In other words Goodell is saying he attacked her. Sounds like slander to me.

He is saying that it is their opinion he did it. I am not sure you can prove malicious intent with that alone.

not how it works in a court of law
So if a newspaper ran a story saying Trump raped a woman knowing all the while that the woman said she would do anything to ruin Trump and no one would believe her because he's a politician... that wouldn't be slander?

Even if it's obvious to an impartial observer that Zeke did nothing and even Goodell's next in command said she wouldn't recommend suspending him?

No, it wouldn't be. Politicians get slandered all the time - they're not protected as a "public figure". As for Zeke, he's been suspended under the NFL's personal conduct policy as permitted under the CBA. Goodell didn't call a press conference and announce "Zeke Elliott beat that woman."

It sucks, and it's obviously damaging, but good luck winning a "slander" case in court.

Actually slander and libel have specific meaning in a legal sense, neither would apply easily here. The bar in very high and requires knowledge of and attempt to spread false information knowingly.Goodell's lawyers would bat that out of the park,he can claim article 46 authority and best facts available to him protection.

But....what we have here is negligent or purposeful application of an interpretation of a contractual agreement(the NFL/NFLPA contract) causing commercial harm to separate entity....Zeke's commercial endorsement standing, and the provision of false witness to a crime from Tiffany Thompson, and attempted extortion through a conspiracy(Sex tape ransom text discussion)....all grounds for a civil suit.

No. If I knew you were not a thief but decided to tell all your clients you were a thief that would be slander.

I would be going out of my way to ruin your reputation and cause harm to you based on information I knew was not true.

Zeke would have to prove that RG knew he was innocent and it wasn't just his opinion based on the information he received.

But if you accused me of raping someone else with no actual knowledge that a rape had ever been committed it's not slander. Our legal system sucks.

Yeah, they pretty much did.

Have you read the letter they sent Zeke? Did you read the press release? They are definitely saying he “beat her”.
