Spike TV has a new show on TV, "Life or Debt" where the purpose is to help folks redo their shaky finances...

I thought it was a hoot... and it was sad too.

A couple from New Jersey, knocking down $155K a year were behind on their mortgage 19 months and had zero savings.

They had some real-world expenses like kids, but then they had many others that were just head-shaking.

I didn't like this show. I can't buy into the "expert." Id rather watch Jon taffer.

I will say however the guy from the profit is good and I like his attitude/approach on how he saves businesses.

Yeah, I get the "expert" thing.

But I liked it.

There are only two "taboos" left...

Death and personal finance.

Folks send images of their private-parts all over the Internet.

But show someone one how little you have in your saving acct or talk about how much money you waste... no.. folks aren't going there! LOL!

Haha! Well said!

I saw the first episode about Jonny meatballs. I just find it hard to believe that this guy who runs a business was just stuffing money in a drawer instead of having a record of what goes in and out as well as basic things such as his over head/food costs (something that is just common sense.) his wife was pretty frustrating too, she was complaining about not having money but she was spending a ridiculous amount of money to "keep up with appearances" when she was essentially an administrative assistant.

Yeah, I get the "expert" thing.

There's very little incentive to invest or save in this country. Interest rates that are lower than inflation, insane 401k fees, an extremely volatile stock market (two major crashes since the turn of the century), insurmountable student loan debt, and a consumerist culture. There's a lot of people like this.

Also, guys like Dave Ramsey and the no debt crowd don't help educate people properly. Debt is a tool, like a chainsaw.
