I don't like the idea of drafting a DE to sit on the bench or reduce our pass rush by taking out Mincey (sorry, but no matter how good the pass rusher is, Mincey>a rookie DE). At our spot there will be several good linebacking, CB (seeing as we might have to release Carr), and RB options... I would much rather go that route.

You have Hardy for one year. Now, the hope is that he will be here for longer then that but it's not for sure. It makes a lot of sense to draft a guy who can pass rush IMO. Those guys will always hold value so I don't see it as a wasted pick if you draft a guy who can pass rush. JMO

I want to draft guys that can help us win a Super Bowl this year, so we need players that will help fill holes this year. DE is not a hole, I would say if Hardy is his usual self it is an area of strength.

I think we got the guy that can help to win the SB, it depends on his potential suspension,,,I would like more DL help but also DB and LB...speed, speed, speed

I would very much like a pass rusher, be it edge or interior in the draft. Just not rd 1 unless a top guy falls. The Edge rusher rotation is pretty well set for this year and the draft pick will likely have to sit 70+% of the snaps. I would mich rather get a guy in rds 3-4 who may need some technique work or weight room time to adjust. Hardy buys the time to do that and not need a 1st rd pick to learn on the fly.

A guy I like is Lorenzo Mauldin. He would need some weight room time and refine his technique to ever be a 3 down 4-3DE, but I really like his pass rushing ability and think he could contribute in passing situations this year. He's the type of player I would target.

You don't draft to fill holes. You draft the best talent in areas of need. If a Pass Rusher is the best player on the board, you take him. That's how you win championships.

Agreed but this article is acting like we should draft a DE even if they are the 10th DE taken and Gurley/Gordon are sitting right there (which is probably possible). All things equal you take someone at a position of need, not someone who will be our 4th DE, especially in the first.

Perhaps but I'm not really speaking on behalf of the article. I'm speaking practically and I my own opinion. Listen, if we had the opportunity to take the BPA and he was a CB or a Safety or some other area of need, it would be a no brain deal and I'd be happy to get it. However, I don't think we discount taking a DL simply because we have Hardy under contract. If that's the best player at 27, take the pass rusher.
