this just in

1) Luck = good
2) Luck not always good
3) We don't make the schedule
4) play man and whack him a few times to let him know he is playing a better team
5) Fredd not worried if the cowboys control the ball and don't turn it over

I'd still say Drew Brees. The guy is a proven veteran gunslinger who has experience, cold-blood and a super bowl ring to his favor. Not saying Luck won't as good, or can be as good as Brees, just as of now, Drew Brees gets the benefit of the doubt from me.

He is not a better QB than Drew Brees.

You know what? I actually forgot that we played him. This season has been a long one.

Anyway, I'd agree that I wouldn't call Luck 'better' right now, but I do think they're equals this year IMO. One guy is falling out of the top 5, the other is climbing into it. Or at least it seems that way much of this year.

When we returned to playing the zone after having early success against the Eagles last week is exactly when we got into trouble by losing our lead. We reverted back to playing man-to-man whereby we then recovered and re-asserted our lead for good. I'm hoping we'll continue to emphasize playing man-to-man. It has proven to be the most advantageous pass coverage for us by way of trial and error.

We have no one who can really cover Fleener either,i really hope the error prone Luck shows up and we sneak through with a win.

Our scheme doesn't allow that unfortunately. We could easily man Carter on a TE but instead have them dropping into zones, etc. Man Cover 2 should be the staple instead of the Zone cover 2 look. Is it really that hard to adjust for this? We may lose out on the Wilcox pick of last week but also force teams to "try" instead of simply giving up the underneath stuff regularly. Safeties are still deep to prevent the deep attempts. Ro/DL would have to step up in Run D w/o a S in the box. But again, doesn't change the pass D whatsoever? Man corners allowed to play man? Tell me I am missing something? Carr was never intended to play soft cover 2?

Well written article.

Interesting that he said the Colts have struggled against man coverage.

The Cowboys have played more man than most people think.

i started off with "oh just another person looking for hits ragging on dallas" but he did his homework and this is just how he feels. good job.

Man D isn't a sacred coverage though. You're totally correct there is minimal talent but would like him to play to our corners strengths? Carr and Scan are man corners. Let them get physical? Cover 2 man is just about the same (BP ran this coverage to the playoffs in 03'). I don;t understand why THAT isn't our standard coverage in that there is no harm outside of Running Qbs. Our DL has minimal pressure so we allow Qbs to pick through our zone coverage? We are hoping for the zone equating in picks but don't have the pressure to allow that coverage? That seems like an obv adjustment? That's a CHI staple that should have been adjusted from day one. But we're not allowed to say that bc we aren't Lacewell.

I think they worry about cover 2 man under because of the safety play. It ccertainly plays to our corner's strengths, but it really really stresses the safeties who have to play mop up in case the coverage breaks. Not to mention that without pressure, it leads to more opportunity.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not sure it isn't the right gamble to at least try to close passing windows, but you have to really trust Wilcox & Church not to let something break.

Impressive indeed, but the music will come to a scratchy halt this Sunday when Dallas’s overachieving defense collides with Andrew Luck’s Colts.

A "scratchy halt"? Isn't it a "screeching halt"? Don't quit your day job!!..... Oh wait.

You mean as in after the coverage breaks down or are you talking about the underneath stuff going long? Regarding the heightened S resp? Wouldn't their responsibility remain the same? Deep 4 zones as they are doing now but the understanding that there is man cov underneath? I guess I don't see the huge gap that has to be closed in to accommodate? It will be mixed in next year and be the new thing I guess?

Indy is a soft team. We will literally run them over. Control TOP. Luck is too good not to rally his team late and make it look close though.

2 man under often asks the db to stay in trail technique. The idea is to put the defender between wr and QB but with the safety rrady to close the window.

Turnovers and 3rd down conversions both for and against. Big plays. Usual stuff.
