Interesting nugget from the article ...... Jones decided to double down on his indifference. He encouraged Quinn to go to Washington—Quinn told me at the beginning of the season that Jones was happy Quinn was going to turn around the football-starved city—and replaced Quinn with a coordinator who would essentially accept a one-year deal.

Jerry Jones Needs to Ace the 2025 Offseason to Save the Cowboys

Dak Prescott’s injury is the final death knell in a season that was doomed before it started. Dallas needs to change course as a franchise.

Thankfully, the last time I checked, Sports Illustrated wasn’t owned by Jerry Jones, so he can’t threaten to fire me for suggesting that he do something about the expensive rubble heap he’s created in Dallas. Although, if I suddenly disappear, consider this an important breadcrumb as to my whereabouts.

We found out Monday that Dak Prescott is out for a long(ish) period of time

SI posted an interesting article on how Jerry better ace the 2025 offseason or we will be in even deeper trouble.

“This is what makes 2025 Jones’s most critical offseason in modern franchise history. It’s not hyperbolic to suggest that the Cowboys need a foundational draft class to replenish an aging defense and offensive line, as well as to add additional playmakers to the offense. He also needs to earmark funding for a historic Micah Parsons contract, and pair Parsons with a dynamic defensive coordinator to unlock him in a similar way that Quinn did. Of course, nailing the head coaching hire is the umbrella under which all these other to-do items fall. And, if Jones wants a quarterback-centric coach capable of also bringing in a home-run-hitting coordinator, he’s probably going to have to pay about twice as much as he did for McCarthy in the first place and ensure that he is willing to provide the resources that McCarthy did not get toward the end of his tenure.”

“Jones is wonderfully adept at making it seem like he has a plan and, certainly, we will start to see its machinations now that the wheels are coming off the current iteration. His last big decision failed to adequately capitalize on the simultaneous primes of three of the league’s best individual position players (Prescott, Parsons and CeeDee Lamb). His next one must, all at once, correct the apathy that has led his starting quarterback to mouth freely on the sideline that “we f------ suck,” immediately turn the Cowboys into a competitive franchise again as Jayden Daniels prepares to lord over this division, and safely navigate the team’s financial situation by drafting, developing and inspiring affordable young talent to backfill this roster.”

While I feel Jerry is simply “misunderstood” lol, it remains a very interesting read.

Concerts, fight matches, monster truck events and college games are not going anywhere.
The stadium will still play host to all these things.
Global merchandising has shown to maintain its profit equity even in losing seasons.
From a financial standpoint the Cowboys bottom line will continue to flourish.

Now if you want to talk about the onfield product then maybe this writer has a valid point.

I just can't figure out if it's gonna be like the 8-8 Garrett squads or the really bad 5-11 Campo years type team.

Gonna be fun.

Not entirely true. From what I hear around here many are slowly turning away from the franchise. This will definitely affect Jerry's revenue in the near future. But what will hurt the most is Jerry's public image crashing and burning

Im not local so you are probably more qualified to know how he is being perceived there.

And you may be right eventually on all of this but in the near term I think his Forbes most profitable sports team trophy remains intact.

Now if this were to turn into a downward spiral of say, 3 to 5 years of losing on the field then I could buy in that he might be in a little trouble.
But then again, history has shown that even in the suckiest of seasons the Dallas Cowboys brand never seems to suffer with regards to bottom line sales. So seeing is believing for me I guess.

I agree with you as far as the here and now. If he had not signed Dak he may be able to right the ship. This team is financially tied to a dead weight that will drag this team down for the next 3-5 years. Many see this and this realization what is fueling the decline in interest

Jerry has really screwed the pooch. It is obvious he is regressing mentally and this franchise is a train wreck because of it

Where you heard that????
Meanwhile, the Cowboys are one of the richest sports franchises in the world...........You do know the Cowboys have millions and millions of fans worldwide. In fact, I would most of those fans love the Cowboys in general. They don't care how much money players are making or analyzing everything Jerry says or do. I tell people all the time posters on this board are what I call professional football fans or forensics as my neighbor like to tease me. Very few fans spend as much time breaking down the team, players, coaches and Jerry the way it is done here at CZ.
I have several family members and friends who are Cowboys fans but they could care less about Dak's contract or Parsons's podcast coz football. Football to them is a few hours of fun, entertainment and just having a good time and no one cares about all that other stuff.

Totally agree.
And it's gotta effect sales at some point.
I think.
Or at least I hope cuz that's the only thing that would cause real change.

We know that won't happen. He will sign one big name FA to make a claim and grab headlines and sign a mid level coach. He will not dish out 15 to 20M for a coach.

And given FA will be light then it comes to draft and given a top 10 pick they can only mess it up so much...if they screw up the draft then he is doo.ed. past two drafts have been awful

"Jones is wonderfully adept at making it seem like he has a plan and, certainly, we will start to see its machinations now that the wheels are coming off the current iteration."

A huge part of this is the cultlike following Jones has amassed over the years. Too many Cowboys fans have devoted themselves to Jones and refuse to see that the person who openly tells you is responsible for everything is responsible for what this team has become.

"He cannot and will not fire himself. Instead, he must find the kind of people who can remain one step ahead of his worst impulses. The kind that have rendered the Cowboys rudderless and meaningless at the tail end of the 2024 season."

Imagine having to deal with the many complexities of being a head coach at the highest level and also have to be handicapped with an egomaniacal football moron who insists on assigning you assistants, dictate game planning, player usage (“touches”) and strategy, strip of you of any real authority over the players, have the ultimate say on draft picks, and limit your ability every year to add talent (no free agency).

This is how Dallas has gone three decades without competing for championships.

They spell Will McClay wrong. The media needs to stat reporting that Jerry has nothing to do with building the team. When is the last time he scouted a player? When is the last time you think he studied film?

As I’ve been saying, the only types who would take this HC job are ones that would be thankful for that final gig and payday, since no one else would hire them in that capacity. I’m still thinking it’ll be Rex Ryan.

People are going to claim that the “head coach of the Dallas Cowboys” is a big deal and the line forms to the left, Jerry very much leading that sentiment, but I disagree. There’s a such thing as career suicide for an up and coming coordinator with options.

So, we end up with inferior coaching and dated schemes and that’s how and why they get beat when it matters most. It’s it denial? Delusion? Both?

If nothing else I hope they at least don’t make a complete joke of the Rooney Rule this time around.
