10. Dallas (1-0). Tony Romo and his offense put 34 points up at Tampa Bay, which is probably about par for the course against a struggling team. But this is the kind of game the Cowboys have traditionally struggled to win in the Romo Era.

Quote of the Week II

"I kind of laugh when I hear the board isn't going to be a big factor. When we walked into the stadium and looked at it, we said, 'That is so hittable.' I hit it on my third punt, and I wasn't even warmed up. Then, in warmups, we probably hit it 25 to 30 times. It's going to get peppered all season.''

-- Punter A.J. Trapasso to me Friday, on the Dallas video board that is 90 feet above midfield, stretching from the 20-yard-line to the 20-yard-line at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

Ten Things I Think I Think

1. I think these are my quick-hit thoughts of Week 1:

g. Keep playing like that, Tony Romo, and nobody will have to mention Terrell Owens anymore.

5. I think this is what I didn't like about Week 1:

c. Tashard Choice taking a Wildcat snap for Dallas. My Wildcatter there would be Felix Jones.

Why is he quoting a punter who has been cut by two teams this summer? Maybe that guy should be more worried about being a good punter than whether he can hit a video board.

I hate ignorant statements.

Par for the course? REALLY? PAR FOR THE COURSE?

The Bucs had the #4 pass defense last year and we went all over it. They had the #10 scoring defense at 20 PPG.

OK, it's a new year, and maybe they're not as good. That's fine.

But the Detroit Lions, who were historically bad last season, allowed 32 points per game. This is the worst team of all time, giving up 32 a game.

So don't poo-poo a 34 point effort (all offensive points, no ST or defensive) against what is historically a VERY good defense with "this is probably par for the course", like this is something every team in the league should be doing. Give me a break, King.

can someone explain to me why Tampa Bay is a 'struggling team'.. as far as i know, the season just started.. so they are struggling from last season? when they went 9-7? people are acting like Tampa Bay is a cellar dweller.. they had a winning record last year, and they should be better this year with Cadillac being back and having Leftwich..

Why was this the kind of game the Cowboys have struggled to win in the Romo era? Isn't the usual knock on Romo is not winning the "big games" in December and January? Early games against lesser-regarded teams are usually no problem for Romo.

choice can throw the ball-thats the reason he is taking the wildcat snaps.

Yeah, isn't Romo like 21-4 or something ridiculous in September through November? We know one of the losses was in overtime at Arizona -- the eventual Super Bowl representative -- a year ago, and another off the top of my head was the game at Washington where, I think, Vanderjagt was in position to hit a game winner.

Losing to supposed subpar teams early in the season has never been a knock on Romo's Cowboys.

the thing about the wildcat play was that the snap came about 3 seconds too early. they had a guy (i think it was Felix) coming in motion but the snap came so quick that Choice got surprised by it.

i'm actually surprised they didn't notice that on the broadcast.

and i think Choice is a good choice (no pun intended) for that position in the wildcat b/c Felix is more dangerous as the motion guy i think.

that's also the way he was used at Arkansas with McFadden taking the snap.

i think it will be an effective formation used sporatically....when the snap comes at the right time.

Romo is 15-5 (75%) as a starter in the regular season on the road so I don't really think King has much of a point.

The unemployed always makes for good quotes. Don't have to worry about silly little rules from the employer.

Oh my. Dear. Dear. Looks like the Texans, Bears and Packers aren't God's gifts to football afterall.

I always love Week 1 of the season, when 6 months of blind speculation on the "it" teams comes crashing down in an avalanche of failed expectations and you realize the high paid talking heads are no different from the anonymous posters on internet messageboards.

Anonymous posters on internet message boards are better at coming back and admitting when they were wrong than the high paid talking heads.

Peter King and this spare punter guy are the two most vocal critics of the new board. Trapasso has seemed to make it his mission to trash the scoreboard from the moment he saw it.

King just likes to have something not directly football related to talk about since he really seems to know very little about actual football. His absolute gushing over the NFC North (and the Bears in particular) show what kind of insight he has.

Since November 23, 2006, Tampa Bay has given up 300 yards passing four times in 36 games.

Two of those were due to some undrafted guy from Eastern Illinois, so maybe it is par for the course for him, but not for many other NFL teams.
