Problem is the NFLPA would never allow that. Creating bigger and bigger millionaires is the one major thing that makes them look like they’re doing a good job. Players coming into the league don’t want to be an above-average-paid WR, they fantasize about wearing gold plates diapers. And as long as the NFLPA keeps that fantasy alive, they’ll get major approval ratings.

In my opinion, it’s part of what hurts the parity in the NBA. Because once you have those set limits, it makes it easier for players to manipulate pay and build those super teams. If Lebron James could make a larger chunk of the cap, he’d never have 2+ all-nba teammates and the power in the league would be much more balanced.
easier for players to manipulate pay.........DID YOU mean owners? x on caps
well you could also raise the minimum salary too which might help offset the maximum.

Right now a small % of players get a ridiculous amount of $, while most dont make all that much compared to those few.

I think goodell and his goons like it too, as it gives media and fans something to talk about and draw in college player with hopes of making
the big $.

Make him play out his rookie deal. Slap him with the 5th year option. Slap him with the franchise tag. Offer him a nice long term deal. If only this was the way things actually happened.

Overpaying a WR is not the answer.

Lamb should make 15 ish.
I hope you are joking. Here are the WRs whose contracts avg between $15M and $16M per year:

- Hunter Renfro ($15.85M)
- Allen Robinson ($15.5M)
- Odell Beckham Jr. ($15M)
- Courtland Sutton ($15M)

They rank between #19 and #22 in terms of annual contract value. You honestly believe that Lamb is barely a Top 20 WR and should be paid the same as these guys?

You just know we are going to overpay him based on our " we like our guys "
The only remaining question:
How bad are we going to overpay ?
You use to be a more positive poster but I’ve noticed the haters have been having more and more influence on you of late. Don’t let them beat you down. You’re better than they are.

His number today is 25m aav, but next year it’ll probably be over 30 once Chase is up. Have to do it now before Jefferson gets his. Waiting until after Jefferson will be bad. Why Hurts getting in before Burrow and Herbert was a big deal
Doesn’t matter with Hurts. Running backs get Hurt and that will Hurt the Eagirls for years to come.

There’s a reason the FO is looking hard at top WRs in this years Draft Class..

Bottomline, if you don’t have a legitimate WR to leverage conversations with Lamb, then Dal will most definitely overpay. I, for one, believe Lamb is a great receiver.. but I’m not sure I’d put him at the “generational talent” status just yet. He seems to perform better when in tandem with another quality WR to help deflect coverages. He’s a game changer when he’s allowed single coverage. That said, legit #1 WR’s rarely are afforded that opportunity.

Does Lamb deserve top WR $$? Well, that’ll be debated. Yet, if Lamb has a great year (top 5 WR production) with Cooks by his side, that’ll help him AND this fan base get behind the presumably high price tag he’ll garner.
He had his best year of his career last year with Gallup as the next best WR. Jeez, I don’t think half the haters even watch the games.

Hi Rocky, I try and be even keeled.
We do tend to overpay our own free agents for some reason.
Just hope we give CD a fair contract
Because of the salary cap, you need to.
All the best,

A first round pick’s fifth year option is the average salary of the 3rd to 25th highest paid player at their position over the last half decade. There’s just that many WRs getting big deals now
Sorry for being lazy but is there a site where we can see the list of wr’s form 3rd to 25th…

The money dictates/affects the quality of football on the field
Dallas is very good at not letting it dictate anything. Thats why they have these low SB higher base salaries in certain years so they can lower caphits by design. Like dak, he has a 40mil AAV, 3yrs into a 4yr deal he's at 21mil AAV. It's not affecting any quality, 12-5 last 2 years. If you want to point to sf loss, they just got beat by a better team that day, barely. Just like they got beat by Philly in a close game, and then Philly got beat by kc in a close game. These teams aren't that far apart. The difference is coaching.
