Who Are the Hot NFL Head Coaching Candidates? 24 Names to Watch
With Black Monday quickly approaching, plenty of NFL teams are about to begin the formal interview process to find their next coach-in-chief. Who will find themselves on the interview trail as the carousel starts spinning?

We released our initial NFL head coaching hot list back at the end of September, and overall, I’m pretty happy with how it held up over the course of a long season. We’re going to update some of the names here, along with adding a few others who might make some sense for jobs this coming year (or in the near future).

I think it's ranked like this right now for the next Cowboys head coach:
  1. Urban Meyer
  2. Ron Rivera
  3. Lincoln Riley (who stays at Oklahoma)
  4. Matt Rhule
And when I consider all factors, I keep thinking it will ultimately be Rivera.

I don't think Garrett is leaving. The excuse train is gathering steam, and the Rams game provided the needed fuel.

Side note: One of the reasons for adding Moore to this list is that the Cowboys have the second most efficient offense. I wonder if consideration was given for all the garbage time stats this top offense has compiled over the past 11 weeks. Hell, even Dak isn't impressed and called his stats 'trash time' stats.

I would cry a little, all the while, die on the inside just a little.

Though, I mean, at least it's not Jason..I guess..?

That's a sobering list. Getting a new head coach and his coordinators is a total crapshoot. I'd play it safe with a guy like Rivera.

I do. I still think the mandate is getting to the NFC Championship Game at minimum and I don;t think he's capable of doing that. But who knows? If he should somehow pull off such a feat, even a staunch critic like me would have to give him a measure of credit for accomplishing that and couldn't entirely dismiss Jerry's desire to keep him around. But again, I think the possibility is remote at best and will cross that bridge when we come to it.

It would be insane for any team to consider a coach with exactly two years experience to be their head coach, so I think it's ridiculous to include Moore's name.

I honestly don't have a clue anymore but I do think if it's not Meyers, the next guy will have a strong NFL postseason resume, such as playoffs and maybe Super Bowl experience. Hell, Garrett's record shows he can consistently win regular season games but postseason/playoffs are his problems. Don't think for a second Stephen don't wanna get at least one Super Bowl from what will likely be a top payroll by the start of 2020.

I think I just threw up in my mouth...

You mentioned Rivera being the probable choice. This is such a safe and boring choice. Jason Garrett, Marvin Lewis, Ron Rivera..../snore

I don't argue with that. It's not what I would consider ideal, but what I expect from Jerry Jones. I think if he doesn't get Meyer (and I think odds of that are shrinking), I think Rivera will be the next choice on his list. He has the disposition to work with Jones and the pedigree to know how to fix this defense. And I also think he would be willing to keep much of the offensive staff intact to start.

If Garrett isn't extended and that's a big IF, I wouldn't be surprised if Booger surprises people with Brett Bielema because he knows him. He's the reason they drafted Yosemite in the 1st round.

Booger said his concern in making a change was that he was comfortable with Garrett and Bielema could bring him that same level of comfort.

He is all about the trenches, that's been his mojo as a coach and he ran NFL type offenses in college.

Matt Rhule intrigues me. Not sure he’s on the Cowboy’s radar, but his name has popped up within the local media.

Mike McCarthy will be a HC next year...………...too many reports about him having the "itch" and that he needs it.
