The Cowboys plan to hire Mike Zimmer as their defensive coordinator. This is not in dispute. The veteran coach wishes to return to the NFL and to do so in Dallas, and the Jones family and head coach Mike McCarthy are all on that same page.

However, a source tells CowboysSI.com that there is an "issue'' related to contract negotiations with the 67-year-old Zimmer, thus the delay from Thursday evening when Dallas all but announced the agreement and Monday morning after the Super Bowl here in Las Vegas, where the hiring has yet to be made official.

Jerry Can Put Out a Memo And Make It Official Today..But The Longer It Takes The More Likely It Could Be TRex Ryan.

This is just nonsense designed to give a false hope that Jones won't be stupid enough to retread a tire with an already worn out spare tire like Zimmer. They know that this hiring is not doing it for most of the fans and is actively turning them off more to 2024.

actually, i heard most of jerry's answers and to most of those questions and he did not ever say MZ deal was set in stone nor really mentioned it was the hire. He stated with ambiguity that the reports were MOST likely correct and that when they are a real official announcement would be made. no one truly confirmed it was a done deal.

So while everyone's trying to make this more entertaining most likely he will end up signing the contract in an official press release will be made but that doesn't mean if they back out on the deal that Rex Ryan's Next up they had the other guys still to choose from that they interviewed or if they feel like they need to go out and do something differently they'll do that as well... Rex Ryan was never the runner up he was just one of those that Evan died they actually had an interview even though he called Jerry the story finally came out, RR lobbied for the job but no official interview has happened.

This stuff is just amusing reading all this this is two of these actual same threads have already been started...

I was thinking maybe the hold up was....McCarthy was out....KC defensive coordinator Spagnola was in as HC.....bringing in Bieniemy to run the offense.

Even Dallas' official website posted an article last week, though it only said Zimmer was "expected" to be named DC.

Wonder if someone there posted something without an "OK" from the powers that be.

Zimmer probably saw all the social media tweets and podcasts of Micah and Dlaws comment about being tired and told Jerry to up the ante...lol

We're supposedly "all-in", yet playing contract negotiation games with an out of work 70 year old coordinator??? What possibly could Zimmer be asking for thats so much out of the question?

Could the holdup be about if Depends are on the contract?

Jerry's already getting them at cost so it really shouldn't be an issue

Who cares..both are uninspiring DC hires…so much for going “all in”. But probably have limited options with a lame-duck HC.

Broaddus just said that Zimm is happy either way. Said it’s about money. Zimm told him he’s good with whatever they decide to do.
