Even if Dallas drafts a receiver in the first round, Terrell Owens isn't going anywhere, at least until the end of this season. That's because history has shown most rookie receivers don't make much of an impact. The Cowboys don't want to give up on a talent like T.O. -- even if he does a lot of things that get on their nerves -- until they have an adequate replacement. -- Dallas Morning News

Don't be shocked if Dallas drafts another linebacker-defensive end in the first round because they need another pass-rusher for the 3-4 defense. It wouldn't be surprising if Rob Carpenter started at linebacker and Greg Ellis was used primarily in pass-rushing situations. -- Dallas Morning News

I really do believe Carp will be starting at OLB, I say this due to the way he played in the Atlanta and Seattle ball games......basically, the lights came on for him.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us draft another pass rusher, but I'd prefer us not do it in the first round when one can be had later.

I agree I think Carpenter can do the job. Late in the season he was becoming more active on the outside and was making some nice plays.

Rob Carpenter? Is that a mistake, or does he go by Rob too?

No, but his dad does. Did we pick up Bobby's dad ?

Dallas will almost certainly add an OLB/DE in the draft, the question is will it be in the 1st or 2nd round...

I have a feeling that we will take a pass-rusher in the early rounds, just a question of whether or not he will be with the first, second, etc.? With Ellis' age and injury, if he does come all the way back, he may not be as effective as he was before.

Do these guys even watch the games?

Our Pass Defense was near the bottom of the league. [the Skins are better]

We are stocked at WR and LB.

This teams needs help at DB.

That is exactly why we should draft a WR in round-1, it takes them time to get up to speed in the NFL. We have Owens and Glenn this year so now is the time to pull the trigger on a WR with our first pick.

If we draft a DE/OLB, and I am sure we will at some point, it will probably be after the 1st round but still on day-1.

How does this fix our Pass Defense [secondary] ?

It was ranked #24 in the NFL in 2006.

Our Pass Offense was ranked # 5.

It helps because the QB does not have all day to sit back and look for the open man. You given any QB enough time he will find an open man and No CB can be expected to stay with a WR for long periods of time.

So drafting a WR or OLB/DE is going to fix this?

We've already drafted players at OLB/DE. Ware, Carpenter, Canty, Spears.

Also, this team wasn't helpless when it comes to pressuring the QB.

Our defense was fixed when we got rid of Zimrod and Parcells and brought in Wade Phillips.

We also signed FS Ken Hamlin and will get Greg Ellis back from injury.

The reason to draft a WR now is because Owens won't be here in 2008 and WRs take time to develop. Hoping to cash in on a late round gem hasn't produced much for us the last dozen years or so. This draft is stocked with 1st round WRs and one or more should be available when we select at #22.

I did not say that, I think many feel Phillips more aggressive style will fix the pass rush. Dallas is in a position that they don't have to go for any 1 particular position in the draft. The reason many are saying WR is because this is a very good WR class and with both of our starting WR in the 30's and the fact that is will normally take a rookie WR a year to get adjusted it seems like a great time to grad a top WR. Dallas very well could take a CB but again I don't think it is some strong need for this season

Do you really thing Zimmer is a better coach than Bill P?

You might want to look at the win/loss records again. [or check out how many Super Bowls Bill P coached in?]

I think we are in denial about Carpenter, and this is coming froma Cowboy fan who has seen the likes of Kavita Pittman. This guy didn't smell the qb, quit making excuses for him, BP was telling us how great he was and he's not. We better have a better pick this year, the only one that stunk as bad as this was Fasano--what happened to that two tight end set that was gonna rock the NFL. I'm sorry but BP didn't walk the walk either with his picks or his coaching. Honestly can Wade do any worse. Anybody remember New Orleans or Seattle, those were like our Stallingrad. It was ugly, it should make all of you doubters and even more in awe of no less than Barry Switzer, remember him, the one everybody makes fun of--the last super bowl winning coach Dallas has seen. I'm just tired of false hopes, loosing at the end when it counts. Sorry but its just frustrating to ba a Cowboy fan these days, we need a winner baddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd....
