Sick but still encouraged

Still sick over the loss. This one wasn't as emotional for me in terms of how angry and frustrated I've been each year didn't end in a SB appearance and win. However, this one has been deep. We were closer than I thought we would be even though I was optimistic about the team's chances this year.

But I think we will grow over this loss. Not trying to put a positive spin on it. But I think we will grow.

I'm excited about the possibility of keeping Garrett. I think he will grow from his mistakes. He needs at least another year and by the end of next year I expect him to be even better. And a better HCing candidate as well as being an offensive guru and QB coach.

Despite starting to get over the loss some and being hopeful about Garrett, I'm still worried. I'm very worried about losing Ireland. We have a team and should compete for a SB. That's if we draft well and acquire talent in FA. The loss of Ireland makes me worry we will lose most of the remnants of the Parcells' influence. I just don't trust Jerry when it comes to acquistion of talent. I definitely think he's better. Parcells rubbed off on him. But with Ireland gone I wonder if the stability of that department will remain cohesive enough to carry on.

What do you think?

I think T Ciskowski (sp?) is highly regarded, and he is in charge of college scouting.

As long as Jerry and Wade convey what are the parameters (i.e., character, interest in playing football, etc.), I don't see too much changing.

I'm not sure Jerry would really change the parameters either. It's been working pretty well over the past few years.

One of the things BP did was have a much smaller draft board. Something like 150 players, if I remember correctly. With the previous drafts pretty good, I'd guess we'd keep similar parameters.

And with respect to actually listening to the scouts, I think Jerry has focused more and more on the scouts rather than who the various co-ordinators prefer. In fact, he said this last year.

Not trying to sugar coat our loss or anything, but to be honest, would we have had much of a chance in the Super Bowl against the Pats? Really? I'm NOT so sure.

Sure-their D has been proven vulnerable the last month, and we would have scored points against them, but does anyone honestly think with Akin Adoyele, Jacques Reeves at nickel and Roy in coverage, that we would have had ANY shot stopping their high powered O? And not to mention too we don't get much QB pressure in the middle(which is where Brady is most vulnerable).

In the next couple of weeks, the pain of this loss will likely lessen, as the loser of the Giants/Packers next week will have a deeper pain, then the winner of this game will likely lose to the Pats, and as we ALL know the Super Bowl LOSER has THE deepest pain.

So yeah-if anything, this loss, hopefully, has taught a valuable lesson to all, and the front office and Wade will likely upgrade on these key areas of weaknesses.
