Sick feeling after looking at Denver pick plays

Guys:

After watching a replay of some of the Denver pick plays, I have a sick feeling about our defense. These were simple plays against what I think was man defense and we were completely clueless. There has to be a built in adjustment that the defense failed to execute or we are completely lost. In one example two Denver receivers picked Lee and the running back had a wide open lane for a crucial 17 yard gain. Both defenders went with the receivers and basically added to the pick.

In any case we had no chance of stopping Denver with the defense in the current state of learning Kiffen's system (if he has one).

Sorry to be so discouraged, but I don't think I have ever seen a defense so helpless. The last time I saw anything like this was another Denver game when John Elway was playing, but in that case there was great execution by Denver.

In my opinion Manning did not have to play all that well (not saying he didn't play well), but the plays were so wide open I think almost any NFL QB would have had a field day.

wait a minute........the announcers stated that Manning was tearing apart NFL defenses without having to dig deep into the playbook for pik plays or bunch formations.........

The problem we had against Denver, having the entire D running in the opposite direction from the player carrying the ball on running plays, really needs to be fixed. Denver seemed to run almost every play against the grain. That's on our coaching, IMO. RGIII and Shanahan have seen the tapes, so if we don't correct it, we're going to get more of the same.

I'm concerned about the pass defense overall. I've been concerned with it for some time. That said, I'm not all that concerned that most teams will be able to move the ball against us like the Broncos did. That was an unusual circumstance. The Saints will be able to. Rodgers is definitely good enough to, though I can see that game playing out a couple of different ways. Most teams, though, aren't going to have the firepower to dominate us defensively the way we were dominated last weekend.

I'm more concerned this week about the Sk**ns blitz packages. We should be killing people on blitzes with all the skill players we've got and with our improved protection. So far, it's been relatively tough sledding.

If it's any consolation, Bill Polian suggested that Dallas' defense will be much better the second half of the season because it takes 8-9 games to switch from the 3-4 to the 4-3 and have the players trust the scheme.

We'll see.
