I was getting a little concerned over the length of time it was taking for Jerrah to get a deal done with Ken Hamlin. I should have known in the end that Mr. Jones would once again reward a player for showing he can be a quality asset to his team. It's just that it seems like forever that we have been looking for that Pro-Bowl FS to match up with Roy W., then we find Hamlin & it looked like we were attempting to get him on the cheap. The team came through in the long run, and that's all that counts.

Now that he is signed long term, and with the additions of Adam Jones, Mike Jenkins, and Felix Jones, our defense & special teams will finally rise above mediocrity. Although the defense had 46 sacks last yr. (3rd-NFL Rank), it had a ways to go in many other areas. Points allowed, 20.3 (13th), & Red Zone TD %, 53.6 (15th), two rather important stats IMHO, were near average compared to the rest of the league. Punt returns, 8.7 (17th), & Kick returns, 22.3 (19th) were a little below average.

However, I believe the 'Boys finally have the personnel, and a system in its second yr., that will bring our defense & special teams up to par with the offense. Adam Jones and Mike Jenkins, along with Orlando Scandrick, will finally give the team a corner position that can go four wide with quality across the board, along with TNew & Henry, of course. This girth of secondary strength should embolden an already strong pass rush.

Special teams is the area that we should see the most improvement in. The Jones' boys, Felix and Adam, should bring the return game to a level not seen in Dallas in a long, long time. Adam was one of the most electric return men in the league his first two seasons, and Felix was one of the best ever in the college game. For once, I won't feel free to run to the kichen for snacks during punts & kickoffs. That's a feeling that I don't mine having.

As I said many times before-sure, we had secondary leaks last year, but Hamlin's addition has been a HUGE upgrade to our unit. Teams no longer were able to deep-ball us, and blown coverages were farer and fewer.(and I can name 4 games last year where he made game-changing plays)

Those who said Hamlin is nothing more than an average safety is a blind-homer.
